Sebastian turned 6 a couple of weekends ago. It tricky having 2 of our children with birthdays either side of Christmas. Seb wants EVERYTHING! and pretty much plays with anything. Him and Isaac play so beautifully together. He loves Hot Wheels, so he got a play set for that<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He has a thing for Buckaroo, as he has been playing it at school. So that was in his pile also</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cBMCB1enNBs/WI8nbjEnqRI/AAAAAAAAE5c/kGwJHmPxVhYDQyywveY5c2sz4jFLpEbFwCLcB/s1600/IMG_6099.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cBMCB1enNBs/WI8nbjEnqRI/AAAAAAAAE5c/kGwJHmPxVhYDQyywveY5c2sz4jFLpEbFwCLcB/s320/IMG_6099.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He had to go to school on his birthday, which he was ok with. He was a bit upset the week before, as he knew his birthday was on a thursday. He got a little confused, thinking it was the week before.... He got very upset. And consequently VERY excited when it was finally his birthday! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
His cake was a plain chocolate one from Tesco, which was absolutely delicious</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For his birthday treat he really wanted to go to a race track, or a Formula one company. These are not the easiest things to do in January in England, so we managed to persuade him to go to the zoo instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The saturday after his birthday we traipsed off to <a href="https://www.marwell.org.uk/zoo/" target="_blank">Marwell Zoological Park</a>. We have been there before, for Oliver's 3rd birthday, when Isaac was still a babe in arms. It was freezing the day we went, but the sun was shining so it did warm up</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Marwell has not really changed that much to be honest. All the animals were pretty active, think the cold must have made them move around more!</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Quite a few big cats, but with good enriched enclosures </div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We walked the whole zoo. We could have taken a tractor ride, but we walked it. It was gloriously quiet, a great way to have some family time. They are building a new Hot House at the Zoo, opening next year, so it was a bit confusing going round at times, but lovely all the same.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KshY9SCNr6Q/WI8nmpxL9fI/AAAAAAAAE5w/wAoMSe9UWqQV0iVl-jR7h_A78uxHXg5CQCEw/s1600/IMG_6134.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KshY9SCNr6Q/WI8nmpxL9fI/AAAAAAAAE5w/wAoMSe9UWqQV0iVl-jR7h_A78uxHXg5CQCEw/s320/IMG_6134.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sebastian really wanted to see the ostriches. Something to do with them being fast.....</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Typically we did the zoo in about 2 hours. Marwell is good, and certainly worth a visit. We toyed with getting a yearly pass. But they don't do family passes, only adult and child. It would be over 200 pounds for us...... Not worth it unfortunately.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From Marwell, it was on to the outskirts of Southampton for everyones treat....... Five Guys! So yummy, just like stateside. Loved it.</div>

As the title suggests, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This is going to be a catch up post, prompted by photos. I don't really have the inclination this year to do a big post on how 2016 has been for us. A lot has happened in the last year, and most of it is documented here. So for now, lets go on some photos from December.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did a craft fair every weekend through december. The photo below is from the one I did in Worthing town centre.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fj20itgqnV0/WGTstAc9QpI/AAAAAAAAE38/hgD574CHAaIH_o6ZfvM50TYpHNn-t6RCgCLcB/s1600/IMG_0535.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fj20itgqnV0/WGTstAc9QpI/AAAAAAAAE38/hgD574CHAaIH_o6ZfvM50TYpHNn-t6RCgCLcB/s320/IMG_0535.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We used to live in Worthing, when Oliver was born. We know the town. This was billed as a big event with at least 30 craft stalls over 2 days. I chose to only do the Sunday, as I could not do both. It was a flop..... The pitch fee was expensive, the amount of people coming by was good, but there were hardly and handmade / craft stalls, more local produce. And I had to share that gazebo with 2 other people. I wrote a strongly worded email to the organiser afterwards. Funnily enough, I haven't heard back form her. I made more money at Sebastians school Christmas fair, than I made in Worthing. The other fairs have done really well, particularly the Christmas items. I am already booked in for about 12 craft fairs next year, but am always on the look out for more. If you know of any good ones, let me know. I am more than willing to travel. (shameless plug for my etsy store <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/HGmTLimited?ref=hdr_shop_menu" target="_blank">here</a>)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Zumba classes attendance have tailed off a little towards the end of the year. It is to be expected I think. Hoping January is going to be busier. I have all my paperwork and forms ready to go, my new routines sorted. I even have a new Zumba Gold class to teach out of a gym in Havant. BodyWorx360 has been there since July, but is starting to offer classes in January. I will be there on a Monday morning, 9.30-10.30am. Super excited.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Almost as exciting as my Christmas week at Zumba, where pretty much everyone who came dressed festive, one way or another! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The final week of school was a busy one. Paul was away, so it was hard work. Isaac had a brass band concert on the Monday afternoon. Every term, the school bring in an outside music teacher. Isaacs year got to learn a brass instrument this term. Isaac played the trumpet. He didn't cry, have a paddy or get upset about having to perform. Not sure how much actually playing he did, but the boy done good</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eUMwT-DfGFo/WGTstSVqxjI/AAAAAAAAE4A/O5SFtLV9QrcY16VdKS8Ot8wb-vXrpBbPwCLcB/s1600/IMG_0577.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eUMwT-DfGFo/WGTstSVqxjI/AAAAAAAAE4A/O5SFtLV9QrcY16VdKS8Ot8wb-vXrpBbPwCLcB/s320/IMG_0577.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thursday afternoon of that week was Sebastians whole school Carol Concert in one of the local churches. It is so good they are able to walk there. It is a beautiful church, just about big enough to hold the whole school, and the parents. He did sing, I think, but he also got very distracted, a lot. Funny how my younger 2 always seem to end up sitting with the teachers..... I so love the boys schools, both of them. They are really benefiting from being in smaller schools....</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Friday morning was my last Zumba Gold for the year. I absolutely LOVE all my classes. These ladies below have been with me since day 1. They are such a good bunch, and we ALWAYS have a laugh. They certainly get my weekends started right! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PGsmxkvjTro/WGTsw0McaII/AAAAAAAAE4M/oPSZU_07nXIkE-1NbeOU6EeDfj0QGxFUQCLcB/s1600/IMG_0608.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PGsmxkvjTro/WGTsw0McaII/AAAAAAAAE4M/oPSZU_07nXIkE-1NbeOU6EeDfj0QGxFUQCLcB/s320/IMG_0608.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Before my Gold class, I have to attend a special assembly at Isaacs school. He had been nominated for an award, but I didn't know which one. Turns out, every term they give 3 awards per year, as well as the reading challenge (special homework), attendance ( most of the school had a sickness bug at some point). Isaacs award was last. He was nominated for the most Successful Learner in his year. This is someone who keeps going, keeps trying, is achieving, and doesn't let adversity hold them back. As soon as his teacher started describing the winner I knew it was him. And yes I cried (I am welling up as I write this). His face was a picture. He is so proud of himself. We are so proud of how far he has come. When I think back to where he was this time last year, he has done so well. He won a selection box as his prize, and received 2 certificates. One for his nomination, and one for his win.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lq2puhc88JU/WGTsz__3_wI/AAAAAAAAE4Q/y6PoqN3dTMwvcTYwQ92fHgSgmBpJFN5swCLcB/s1600/IMG_0649.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lq2puhc88JU/WGTsz__3_wI/AAAAAAAAE4Q/y6PoqN3dTMwvcTYwQ92fHgSgmBpJFN5swCLcB/s320/IMG_0649.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then school was over. We had a full week between school finishing and Christmas. It was a long, long week, but we all survived. We have seen friends, done some walks etc. And now Christmas is done. It was a low key affair for us. We saw my step dad and stepsisters on Christmas eve, which was really nice. A lovely thing to do. Christmas day was spent at home relaxing, opening presents and eating and drinking too much. Boxing Day, Pauls parents came down, with the gifts from his brother and sister. We spent the day chatting and eating. Since then we have been swimming, bowling and had haircuts for all males in the house. That was entertaining....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This afternoon we will be going for a walk, probably somewhere like this....</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QwTeA-5GZOY/WGTs36JWoSI/AAAAAAAAE4U/3FPB1RiSZDEdYXIC9IcUG7VX0JCWWbxtQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5958.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QwTeA-5GZOY/WGTs36JWoSI/AAAAAAAAE4U/3FPB1RiSZDEdYXIC9IcUG7VX0JCWWbxtQCLcB/s320/IMG_5958.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Or this.....</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ryoOOLC3A3A/WGTs4Yz5ieI/AAAAAAAAE4Y/-prtAUeZ7vcuwbYfmjBtJg9hnGLEunITwCLcB/s1600/IMG_5968.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ryoOOLC3A3A/WGTs4Yz5ieI/AAAAAAAAE4Y/-prtAUeZ7vcuwbYfmjBtJg9hnGLEunITwCLcB/s320/IMG_5968.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
New Year eve will be spent at home, we will let Oliver and Isaac stay up as long as they can. Seb will probably be in bed by 9pm......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy New Year! </div>

My middle one celebrated his birthday last weekend. His birthday fell on a friday. His presents were not as numerous as they were in the States, though he did not seem to notice or care. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fLNb5ds2IO4/WELZNMGuJWI/AAAAAAAAE3M/5vboIA92jNQFOWU8UP6gVyARwvEq3FAtQCLcB/s1600/IMG_0511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fLNb5ds2IO4/WELZNMGuJWI/AAAAAAAAE3M/5vboIA92jNQFOWU8UP6gVyARwvEq3FAtQCLcB/s320/IMG_0511.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Isaac is difficult, yet easy to buy for. He likes pretty much everything, and didn't give us much of an idea of what he wanted, other than Lego</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W0tF6p47c0w/WELZLhEZm9I/AAAAAAAAE3I/34PHApJFWeEgtQYACwmu9IFFPSehmFfIACLcB/s1600/IMG_0516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W0tF6p47c0w/WELZLhEZm9I/AAAAAAAAE3I/34PHApJFWeEgtQYACwmu9IFFPSehmFfIACLcB/s320/IMG_0516.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think he was pleased with what we got him. He had a 'Secret Life of Pets' birthday cake from Tesco (big supermarket chain).</div>

It wasn't the best of cakes. Lesson learned.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Isaac had initially wanted a birthday party, but luckily for us he changed his mind about a month ago. When we discovered there was a Lego store opening in Leicester Square, London, we thought about going, especially as that was what hew wanted for his birthday. So I started investigating.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Trains are always a good experience for boys, and there are plenty of train stations in the UK. But there are 5 of us, and travelling to London and around London can be expensive on public transport. But it beats sitting in traffic. I came across this <a href="https://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/" target="_blank">Friends and Family Railcard.</a> Using this, you can get up to a third off train fares. I was able to use my Tesco <a href="https://tesco.com/clubcard/about/" target="_blank">Clubcard</a> Points to purchase the rail card at 50% off (<i>Note to US friends: Tesco Clubcard points are a bit like Bi Lo fuel perks, except you can use them in many different ways, not just on fuel. For every pound you spend in the grocery store, you get 1 point. These accumulate, and then different organisations offer different schemes to redeem your points</i>). We were able to get 5 train tickets, plus one day travel cards for each of us for 60 pounds. Thats 12 each! A one day travel card gives you unlimited travel on the underground all day too. The card is valid for a year, so I can see a few more trips to London occurring. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Isaac wanted to go to the <a href="http://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-london" target="_blank">Imperial War Museum</a> (IWM). Paul and I went pre-kids and we were a little uncertain, but went for it anyway. We got the train to Victoria, then the underground across to Waterloo, then walked the short distance to the museum.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zC1Q8SZUosM/WELZRMPW5OI/AAAAAAAAE3U/4cew-EBBUBog5eUu10YZ3h--jNLaBzfegCLcB/s1600/IMG_5902.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zC1Q8SZUosM/WELZRMPW5OI/AAAAAAAAE3U/4cew-EBBUBog5eUu10YZ3h--jNLaBzfegCLcB/s320/IMG_5902.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The IWM had a refit in 2014, so was completely different from what we remember. It is over 4 floors, with a large central atrium. Typically, It covers World War 2, World War 2 and lots of other, more recent conflicts.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3jvL3aknQII/WELZPQbQ6hI/AAAAAAAAE3Q/9DVJHy_mIbYVUfyvOKjYoMQtIKVIqek-QCLcB/s1600/IMG_5906.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3jvL3aknQII/WELZPQbQ6hI/AAAAAAAAE3Q/9DVJHy_mIbYVUfyvOKjYoMQtIKVIqek-QCLcB/s320/IMG_5906.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The museum is free to get in, though you can give a donation if you wish. It was really interesting going over the levels. They had members of staff giving talks in very places, but ours are still a little young to stand and listen.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kT4PvVUJW54/WELZRviJrLI/AAAAAAAAE3Y/UF7mW-SKJtkrSCpMF7R9j0jWud9LDEFqwCLcB/s1600/IMG_5921.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kT4PvVUJW54/WELZRviJrLI/AAAAAAAAE3Y/UF7mW-SKJtkrSCpMF7R9j0jWud9LDEFqwCLcB/s320/IMG_5921.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The IWM is definitely worth a visit. Paul and I would like to go back again in the future to actually take our time. We didn't take the kids to the Holocaust area. We are not sure they would understand (or behave). In the future, we will. It is important for them to learn about.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From the IWM we walked towards the London Eye, in search of some lunch. I spotted a row of restaurants nestled by London County Hall, near the river. Fortunately, they all seemed to hav loads of kids in them. We chose <a href="http://www.troia-restaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank">Troia </a>restaurant. Very glad we did. A Mediterranean style restaurant, they had mini chairs and tables for everyone. The service was, good, customers were coming and going constantly. It was a very busy saturday lunchtime! The food was delicious. The boys had nuggets and burgers from the kids menu. Paul and I indulged in kebab style meals. It was a great little stop, I would highly recommend to anyone passing by. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next stop: <a href="https://www.londoneye.com/" target="_blank">The Coca Cola London Eye</a>. Again, planning in advance I was able to use the Clubcard vouchers again. Per person, I used a 2.50 voucher, then paid 10 per person, so effectively we rode the London Eye for half price. We booked our flight tickets for 2.30pm. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TvJuc5oB9bk/WELZXJnMMlI/AAAAAAAAE3g/f7fytQpELEcIb34KsQkbIEA4nTpVUMRFACLcB/s1600/IMG_5933.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TvJuc5oB9bk/WELZXJnMMlI/AAAAAAAAE3g/f7fytQpELEcIb34KsQkbIEA4nTpVUMRFACLcB/s320/IMG_5933.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We arrived about 1.45, and a good job we were early. The queue was a good size, though it was moving. We to into our pod about 2.20</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-51IFlOD9rQQ/WELZZmz99OI/AAAAAAAAE3k/ccQ614S45D8FpSukVY17mkBsjF2ZurTcgCLcB/s1600/IMG_5938.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="183" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-51IFlOD9rQQ/WELZZmz99OI/AAAAAAAAE3k/ccQ614S45D8FpSukVY17mkBsjF2ZurTcgCLcB/s320/IMG_5938.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was an awesome experience. Paul is not the best with heights, so spent the first half sitting in the middle. Towards the top he got brave, and started venturing nearer the edge. We were lucky to have a beautiful semi cloudy day, so we were able to see for miles. The pods have helpful screens in them which you can use to find land marks </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0PuK_oD1j_8/WELZVgXJKPI/AAAAAAAAE3c/kWNwn7rf2kk9GltvP-DuUv51h0XHfhvhgCLcB/s1600/IMG_5942.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0PuK_oD1j_8/WELZVgXJKPI/AAAAAAAAE3c/kWNwn7rf2kk9GltvP-DuUv51h0XHfhvhgCLcB/s320/IMG_5942.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The pods could do with a little bit of a clean. From the Eye, we got the tube to Leicester Square. That was busy. Getting out of the tube station was crazy, super, super busy. Keeping track of 3 boys was tricky, but at least we did it with our wallets intact too. We headed towards the <a href="http://time.com/4576157/lego-store-london-photos/" target="_blank">Lego store</a>. Then we saw the queue. They had been open 5 days, it was Leicester Square, there were going to be queues. But we joined the queue. We had to wait about 30 minutes. I think it was worth it. The boys were able to pick something each. It was very busy, but the staff were very helpful. We had a quick look in the Nickelodeon store, but it was no way as good!<br />
<br />
Then it was time to head back for our train. We had a good 90 minutes before our schedule train back to the coast. We got to Victoria, looked at the departure boards, and noticed there was one leaving in 5 minutes. So we ran for it. And made it. The train was really busy, but we were able to all get seats after about 4 stops.<br />
<br />
It was a great day out. Everything ran really smoothly. The boys were really well behaved. It is good to know we can do London with the boys. I look forward to doing it again (and I don't even like London!)ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-77475479881799746652016-10-31T16:02:00.002+00:002016-10-31T16:02:54.843+00:00Half term is over <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay. It has been a while. I am sorry. But I have been super busy. This is going to be a catch up post with what has been going on and how we have been handling it / adjusting to life back in the UK.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The boys started school at the local Juniors (Oliver and Isaac) and Infant (Sebastian) Schools. These schools are just over the road from each other and just a little bit too far to walk in a morning. We have walked home, but not for a while.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YR-Ko-0C86o/WBdk_-ZIOoI/AAAAAAAAE1E/ihsD0_2C3s4j0ZlcLLvNJgqtrg-pKuDHwCLcB/s1600/IMG_0175.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YR-Ko-0C86o/WBdk_-ZIOoI/AAAAAAAAE1E/ihsD0_2C3s4j0ZlcLLvNJgqtrg-pKuDHwCLcB/s320/IMG_0175.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They have taken to it quite well. The juniors have parents evening (parent teacher conferences) tomorrow, and the infants the week after. Here is my thoughts...... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oliver is flying. We always knew the boy was academically minded, but he is doing really well. He gets to go on a residential school next June for a week of outdoor activities. <strike>I </strike>He can't wait! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Isaac has had his issues, though they have not been as bad as expected. Given that the school only received his ADHD report the day before school started, he is doing well. He began not wanting to do any tests ( and not risk failing) in anything. 6 weeks later, he has passed his times tables tests in 2, 5 and 10 times tables. And he knows them like a pro. Spellings is a different matter...... His teacher is great. She is so laid back. She has had kids like Isaac before, and knows her stuff. In fact, the whole staff have been great. They don't tend to punish in the juniors school, as they don't really need to (crazy I know), but make a big deal out of the positives in school and life. We have had 2 postcards from the head teacher about achievements that Isaac has done. Not huge ones, but big for him. I don't doubt we will have more issues, but so far so good. He even told me couple of weeks ago that he actually likes school now.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sebastian, ah Sebastian...... We are weeks away from reading. He is fortunate in that even though he has the biggest year group (grade) it is split over 3 classes, so only about 24 in each class. In this country, that is great. He has a teacher and a teaching assistant (TA). The TA tends to work with small groups who need the most help, so she has got to know Sebastian quite well. Her words "I've never known a boy like him". His parents evening will be interesting, but he is getting there. He practices his spellings for homework, even if he doesn't necessarily do the tests. He is still very social. Everyone knows him, in all the years, and he knows everyone..... He has also gone into the Silver Book at school, which means he got a certificate for trying hard and doing well.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CUq5HKtcsRc/WBdk-e3jWOI/AAAAAAAAE1A/Bk3tql_VDmkHU2gGTXQJAcAhEQjXyzu5gCLcB/s1600/IMG_0391.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CUq5HKtcsRc/WBdk-e3jWOI/AAAAAAAAE1A/Bk3tql_VDmkHU2gGTXQJAcAhEQjXyzu5gCLcB/s320/IMG_0391.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We are still finding our way around the island, but loving it very much! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JYRzzRcGeLI/WBdk8vc6esI/AAAAAAAAE08/zdwumb0LdeoF_AwRw5e8svP6GssKVMCpwCLcB/s1600/IMG_5790.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JYRzzRcGeLI/WBdk8vc6esI/AAAAAAAAE08/zdwumb0LdeoF_AwRw5e8svP6GssKVMCpwCLcB/s320/IMG_5790.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The kids are pretty tired from school so we don't tend to do much at the weekend. We went to the Italian Breakfast Club at the Goodwood Motor track. This is an event organised so people ca bring their Italian cars to the race track for people to look at. Pretty cool. I imagine we will be at more Breakfast Clubs in the future. Think Cars and Coffee in Greenville, but with particular types of cars </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0NTGZGjZsFk/WBdlBtUt64I/AAAAAAAAE1I/T1Xt2YKFyH4HTvvuXXkyAvmx4cNE0sdOQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5821.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0NTGZGjZsFk/WBdlBtUt64I/AAAAAAAAE1I/T1Xt2YKFyH4HTvvuXXkyAvmx4cNE0sdOQCLcB/s320/IMG_5821.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have been swimming, and a few other things in Portsmouth, but thats about it. As I say, we are tired. The kids aren't interested in any extra curricular activities, and we don't push them. If they decided they want to do something, we will certainly look into it. We have just finished half term here, where the kids get a week off school. It works quite well, and they seemed to enjoy being off school! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Paul has been working super hard, and has been away Monday to Friday for the last 2 weeks, and this week also. This has been a big adjustment for us, but we are getting there. We have found some babysitters, as I now work in the evenings.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After finishing my degree, and doing my Zumba trainings, as soon as we moved into this house I set up as a limited company. There are 2 arms to my company, Zumba classes, and craft items.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am fortunate with the Zumba, as the instructor on the island left a couple of months before I got here. I teach Zumba on a Monday night, Thursday day and night. I teach Zumba Gold on a Tuesday and Friday daytime. It has been such a great way to meet people. I average about 20-40 people across my whole classes in a week. Some people just do Zumba, some Gold, and some both!!!! I have changed my music a couple of times, as I like to keep it fresh, but there are definitely some favourites in there!!!My Zumba ladies are lovely. This has been the first time I have taught Gold, and although it is a very steep learning curve, I love it. No 2 classes are ever the same.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The crafting has been quite good too. I have done a couple of craft fairs, and although I have not made a four tune, I have made my costs on the events back. I have also had a sale on Etsy here, and am doing well networking on social media and in person. I love the island, there are so many wonderful eclectic people here, and a real sense of community. I hope we can stay a while.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next time, I will not wait so long to blog.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; text-align: center;">
Woohooo!!! This is my 300th blog post!!</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
I started this blog originally back in June 2012. The idea behind it was to give family members an insight into our life, as we made a big chance and moved our family to America on a temporary working contract for my husbands job.</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
4+ years, thousands of miles (and vacations) later, and we are back in good old blighty! Sometimes it feels like we have never been away..... Other days we remember the awesome times we had just driving down Main Street, Simpsonville. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
Having this blog has been like a diary. I am able to go back and look at events that happened in our lives. And there have been so many. Some happy, some very sad and some surprises along the way. This blog will always give me a means to reflect on what our life has been. But it can also give me guidance, as to what our lives could become. I hope the boys don't end up hating me for documenting parts of their childhood in the public domain. I don't think they will. If they were girls, it might be different!</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
Going forward, I am not sure the best way to use this blog. In the past it has been used for recipes, holiday guides and days out and about. I still make a load of recipes, but haven't been on as many holidays! Or days out come to think of it, but I am sure that will change! I am working now, albeit not full time, but enough that I am certainly occupied! So I will probably fit the blog in with updates on kids, days out we do and vacations. And any major life changes that happen.</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal;">
Thanks for reading. I hope you have enjoyed following our journey so far. I will do another post very soon as an Update style post! </div>
ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-30026939052438272392016-09-04T20:24:00.001+01:002016-09-04T20:24:39.829+01:00Camping and Monster Jam <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This weekend we went camping. We discovered a couple of weeks ago that Monster Jam were coming to Cardiff on their world tour. Sebastian loves Monster Jam, the other two like it a lot also. We looked into tickets. It was at the Principality Stadium (formally the Millennium Stadium). Having seen Monster Jam in <a href="http://claregosling55.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/january-where-did-you-go.html" target="_blank">Greenville</a>, we knew what to expect. Given the size of the stadium in Wales, we were hoping they would really cut loose and go wild.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We left mid morning on Friday. The weather was not looking too great for the saturday, but we would be in Cardiff all day, so not have to worry about being bored around a tent. The roads were pretty busy, but we reached the Severn Crossing in good time. Six pounds sixty it cost to enter Wales via bridge. Thats about 4 dollars.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had booked a pitch at <a href="http://www.heritagecoastcampsite.com/" target="_blank">Heritage Coast Campsite</a>, about a 45 minute drive from Cardiff. The campsite was fairly quiet when we arrived, though it did start to fill up. In the states we invested in a lot of camping gear. We had a nice little set up.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--iqu-gSHbjA/V8xsEf2m3XI/AAAAAAAAEzU/7W8kfRe_nCANSUCHAziphWuUkq-QUmkzwCLcB/s1600/IMG_5690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--iqu-gSHbjA/V8xsEf2m3XI/AAAAAAAAEzU/7W8kfRe_nCANSUCHAziphWuUkq-QUmkzwCLcB/s320/IMG_5690.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once we were set up, we took a little walk to the coast. This area is in the Vale of Glamorgan, and has part of the path we took on the <a href="http://www.walescoastpath.gov.uk/?lang=en" target="_blank">Wales Coast Path </a>. The lady in the reception at the campsite was very knowledgable, and gave good directions to get to the coast. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Along the way we went past this derelict house. We can only imagine it was a mill or something, as it was right next to a stream.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_RuQNgJr1Cs/V8xsGvbvfBI/AAAAAAAAEzc/jwRJcoveCyYc6jG7gkcm6bOYxBtTltEzgCLcB/s1600/IMG_5701.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_RuQNgJr1Cs/V8xsGvbvfBI/AAAAAAAAEzc/jwRJcoveCyYc6jG7gkcm6bOYxBtTltEzgCLcB/s320/IMG_5701.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We kept going. Can't remember the last time I went over so many styes. It was the boys first experience of them They were made of stone / slate too. Good job no one took a tumble....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A stunning view awaited us once we had passed through the woods.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sknS0eidAi8/V8xsIbDdgKI/AAAAAAAAEzg/t_WlZ6OVHrMt3dmsNNfYwbIYU-0ncA8vgCLcB/s1600/IMG_5706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sknS0eidAi8/V8xsIbDdgKI/AAAAAAAAEzg/t_WlZ6OVHrMt3dmsNNfYwbIYU-0ncA8vgCLcB/s320/IMG_5706.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The foot path was pretty muddy, which the boys loved. The beach was stunning to look at, but very impractical. All the same, beautiful. The tide was on its way in, so we stopped for a bit and threw some massive rocks. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c1nuak1T1U8/V8xsMbf0x9I/AAAAAAAAEzo/62EOdVaisgIi88emskorFin00Yqw7qvygCLcB/s1600/IMG_5712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c1nuak1T1U8/V8xsMbf0x9I/AAAAAAAAEzo/62EOdVaisgIi88emskorFin00Yqw7qvygCLcB/s320/IMG_5712.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We headed back to the campsite and had some dinner. Spaghetti Bolognese, pre made at home, reheated on the stove, with garlic bread slices, cooked on a toaster rack. It was yummy. The boys even made friends with the boys next door, playing football until it got dark.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We awoke on Saturday morning to a beautiful sunset, early. The boys thought 6am was a good wake up. Think the rest of the campsite would have disagreed....... The sunshine didn't last either. By 9am it was raining on and off, so we decided to head to Cardiff.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We took a little drive through Barry on the way. Home of<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0908454/" target="_blank"> Gavin and Stacy </a>(popular BBC comedy), it would have been rude not to! Nice looking seaside town, would definitely like to come back once the weather is better......</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i-UeTlHyE7o/V8xsKhz9NWI/AAAAAAAAEzk/rVl91sEqLNwwTQkZG_EmEMRtnW_UQwGwwCLcB/s1600/IMG_5726.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i-UeTlHyE7o/V8xsKhz9NWI/AAAAAAAAEzk/rVl91sEqLNwwTQkZG_EmEMRtnW_UQwGwwCLcB/s320/IMG_5726.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cardiff traffic was bad, but not as bad as I was expecting it to be. We manages to find somewhere to park right in the centre. We were getting hungry, but were a little early for lunch. We found a Harvester in the centre of time, and decided to sit it out until lunch service began. The restaurant started to fill up, mainly with families who had been to Party in the Pits at Monster Jam. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We enjoyed lunch, but had to take a walk round, as we were still to early to get in the stadium. It was really raining by now. We got into the stadium as soon as the doors opened. It certainly was something. Huge, much bigger than the one in Greenville. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Eh9VVlBVHo/V8xsNA0l13I/AAAAAAAAEzs/IlWWsB4u5qwgbDRglWmzhr4dU218ywongCLcB/s1600/IMG_5730.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Eh9VVlBVHo/V8xsNA0l13I/AAAAAAAAEzs/IlWWsB4u5qwgbDRglWmzhr4dU218ywongCLcB/s320/IMG_5730.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There were 12 trucks taking part in the spectacle. The boys loved it. Personally, I found the racing bit a little boring. The Extreme Motocross riders in the intermission were awesome. Then there was a wheelie competition. Again, a little boring. The freestyles were good. 2 of the trucks did back flips and wrecked themselves in the process!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-to1iTUbrHXQ/V8xsNaH_HTI/AAAAAAAAEzw/kBTLF062JzE7Y_jusEXLHHBx9cS_g1JugCLcB/s1600/IMG_5743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-to1iTUbrHXQ/V8xsNaH_HTI/AAAAAAAAEzw/kBTLF062JzE7Y_jusEXLHHBx9cS_g1JugCLcB/s320/IMG_5743.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All in, the Principality Stadium is awesome. Prices for refreshments reasonable. The Monster Jam was a little under whelming to me. But this wasn't for me, it was for the kids. They loved it. I can understand why. I think the TV coverage and commentators really hype it up, but when you see it in real life, its just not the same...... It seems Monster Jam come to the UK every 4 years or so. If they come again, we will probably end up going! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Getting out of Cardiff was not to tricky. We stopped for some fast food at the nearest big town before heading back to the campsite. It was windy and wet when we arrived. It was not a pretty sight..... Water had got through the tent and we had a swimming pool in the tent. It would have been great, except all the bedding, clothing even the towels and food were soaked. We weighed up out options, as it continued to rain. We had no dry bedding or clothing, so we decided to cut our losses and pack up and head for home. The kids were pretty upset, more about their wet teddies than the fact we were heading home. We managed to get everything packed and in the car in under an hour. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We arrived back home just before midnight. It was a long old day. The weather has been dry and windy here today, so we have dried out all the equipment. We are all really tired after a super long day yesterday! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We will give camping another go, but possibly get out other tent back from the inlaws. Its a lot bigger, and hopefully more water proof........</div>

We have been back for 2 months. Its funny, in some respects it feels like we have never been away. We have got ourselves in a nice little rut.<br />
<br />
The house is working for us. My dad recently moved, so we were able to take a whole lot of his furniture. This has enabled us to make better use of the space. My craft area is set up, and beading has begun. The living room works ok as a living space and office/ craft space. Paul has his iRacing set up in our bedroom. Its not ideal, but the room is big enough to handle it. The boys rooms work, just. We took a trip to ikea to get some draws for their clothes. The toys are a bit of a mess, but as they are constantly being played with it doesn't really matter. The boys can even be pretty helpful at tidying them up too (sometimes)<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DOzhnSYe4Jo/V8gG5gEI2OI/AAAAAAAAEzA/-bOeRPnblCs9k7P7j_jbzRtgl5MH6IVIACLcB/s1600/IMG_5627.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DOzhnSYe4Jo/V8gG5gEI2OI/AAAAAAAAEzA/-bOeRPnblCs9k7P7j_jbzRtgl5MH6IVIACLcB/s320/IMG_5627.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pauls racing set up</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Paul is getting on ok at work. Adjusting to being in a much smaller plant. He has a few trips away between now and Christmas, but I think I will survive......<br />
<br />
The boys. Ahh the boys. Nearly 100 days the older 2 will have been off. 60 for Sebastian. I am so ready for them to go back to school. So are they, they just don't realise it yet..... School starts Tuesday. They are very happy in the house, and they love Hayling Island. We all love Hayling Island.<br />
<br />
I am busy! I have taken <a href="http://claregosling.zumba.com/" target="_blank">Zumba</a>, and run with it. Fortunately, the lady who did instruct on the island has moved away, so I am hoping it is really going to build once school goes back. I have 3 different places on the island I will teach at, and have just been told of another one to look into. I am still teaching in Havant for Activ8 Minds. I really hope to continue this, as the ladies there currently are lovely! I also have a great group on the island on a thursday evening. In two weeks time I will be adding another Monday evening class, a Zumba Gold on a Tuesday and a Friday Morning. Then in 3 weeks time, a 45 minute class on a Wednesday evening. Busy.... But I think I can handle it. It is 6 classes a week, 4 Zumba (one is 45 minutes), and 2 Zumba Gold. I love it. I am so happy I am able to work at something I truly love. Lets hope I can break even, so I can continue to do it.<br />
The crafting is going good too. I have signed up for 3 craft fairs between October and November, so once the kids go back to school I will be making again. I have even set up a new <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/HGmTLimited?ref=hdr_shop_menu" target="_blank">etsy store</a>, due to banking complications with the one in the US. I am currently having a go at beaded christmas ornaments, as these may sell well in the next few months! I do a lot of networking online, which also helps.<br />
<br />
And the island. Hayling Island is stunning. It is like a little time capsule. It is one of those places where everyone knows each other and people have lived here a <i>long</i> time, or all their lives. There are some great characters.<br />
<br />
The west of the island has what is called the <a href="https://www.walkandcycle.co.uk/hampshire/Trails/00-49/HAMPTR0041_leaflet.pdf" target="_blank">Billy Trail.</a> This is an old railway line which was decommissioned in the 1950's and had since been turned into a bike / walking trial. We have walked some of it, and Paul and Oliver have ridden some of it It is very picturesque, and very popular.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F6hPZSl1VCs/V8gFbwnqx0I/AAAAAAAAEys/epA8VFPyWSQa6SFWK7IWNx-3qu34iuEywCLcB/s1600/IMG_0117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F6hPZSl1VCs/V8gFbwnqx0I/AAAAAAAAEys/epA8VFPyWSQa6SFWK7IWNx-3qu34iuEywCLcB/s320/IMG_0117.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Down on the seafront, right in the middle of the island, is <a href="http://funland.info/" target="_blank">Beachlands</a>. My kids call this Kids Kingdom. It is like a mini amusement park, aimed at kids aged 3-12 (roughly). We have taken them once, and they loved it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jlf4nZMSito/V8gFecXDSbI/AAAAAAAAEy0/AvmsnUEmMlwASMjpcn7ugkENSv2zeRK3gCLcB/s1600/IMG_5604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jlf4nZMSito/V8gFecXDSbI/AAAAAAAAEy0/AvmsnUEmMlwASMjpcn7ugkENSv2zeRK3gCLcB/s320/IMG_5604.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have had a couple of stormy days, one when my dad came down. Being near to the explosive power of the waves is awesome, yet dangerous too. But the waves look so cool......</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lz-F8Qt81pA/V8gFeHgJz4I/AAAAAAAAEyw/MBubw4JCknU-FBgGg5Dz6CxVSleR_8YSQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5661.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lz-F8Qt81pA/V8gFeHgJz4I/AAAAAAAAEyw/MBubw4JCknU-FBgGg5Dz6CxVSleR_8YSQCLcB/s320/IMG_5661.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thats all for now. We are actually going away this weekend. Camping. To Wales. Not like the remnants of a hurricane are blowing through or anything....... Wish us luck.....</div>

<br />
Last thursday, Paul travelled over to the house on Hayling. The container was due at 9. It arrived at 8.20<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-37Rs9tFvsiQ/V6RP6uSW7wI/AAAAAAAAEvw/qNDPAnMu0qA/s640/blogger-image--2045727134.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-37Rs9tFvsiQ/V6RP6uSW7wI/AAAAAAAAEvw/qNDPAnMu0qA/s640/blogger-image--2045727134.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Luckily we have a little road next to the house which leads down to an industrial estate. They parked the container there and walked everything round</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nkF-lNU-xh8/V6RP3FFdQDI/AAAAAAAAEvs/KxOi5NauOBw/s640/blogger-image--959399591.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nkF-lNU-xh8/V6RP3FFdQDI/AAAAAAAAEvs/KxOi5NauOBw/s640/blogger-image--959399591.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is what the contents of our lives looked like strewn across our drive. The boxes went all the way down to the garage in back. They emptied the container in two and a half hours. Not bad. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There was chance of rain that afternoon, so Paul and the packers did their best to get everything under cover. I arrives about 11.30 with the boys, and made a start on the kitchen. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Everything was inside by the time the packers left. The drive was back to looking like this</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qB0BVXJ-wyc/V6RQBqp4tPI/AAAAAAAAEv4/ncjqQauEhW4/s640/blogger-image--1566307644.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qB0BVXJ-wyc/V6RQBqp4tPI/AAAAAAAAEv4/ncjqQauEhW4/s640/blogger-image--1566307644.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Before the packers left for the day, we got them to make up the beds. Al of them. Because of this, we decided to stay at the house for the night. I eventually found the bedding, and we set about making the beds. The cat had come over the day before, so she was well acclimatized! I was supposed to be going to a friends wedding reception that evening, but i missed it due to how long it took us to get everything sorted for the evening. I was pretty gutted </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The boys rooms were the first thing we tried to sort. Isaac and Seb now have the bunk beds</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-l8424PzRM3Q/V6RQSkT_vrI/AAAAAAAAEwM/fMrEGMe7fZI/s640/blogger-image-977557548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-l8424PzRM3Q/V6RQSkT_vrI/AAAAAAAAEwM/fMrEGMe7fZI/s640/blogger-image-977557548.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oliver is back to having a single bed, with the car track and Lego in his room.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AeEEGVrqAe0/V6RQFDARv_I/AAAAAAAAEv8/uCb7hQsaEuI/s640/blogger-image--1823129483.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AeEEGVrqAe0/V6RQFDARv_I/AAAAAAAAEv8/uCb7hQsaEuI/s640/blogger-image--1823129483.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think he likes it. The boys bedrooms are both the same size, and a good size too, about the same as their rooms in the states.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really like my kitchen. It is a good size for an eat in kitchen in the UK. Most cupboards are full. or nearly full. The table we picked up from ebay for 35 pounds. It is a drop leaf table, so can have only one side up if we chose. It works for us, and even goes with our chairs. Not pictured, but there is a utility room just off the kitchen. This is a godsend. It stores all the crap that was in various places around our old kitchen, and makes this kitchen more workable. I like it. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The big dinning table we had in the states is currently in the garage, with the top from the boys learning table on it. A great work area for crafts or DIY.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The living room is a work in progress, and will be for some time. We are awing some furniture from my dad. His house is sold, and is just waiting to sign, so hopefully by the end of August we will have some nice furniture in there.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We are far from being settled. Paul has next week off, and we were planning on going camping. Given the amount of boxes still in the garage, we have decided to leave it for now. We need bedroom furniture. We have bought some for our bedroom, but the boys all need a chest of draws per room, and I need a wardrobe of sorts. I think we will be taking a trip to Ikea in Southampton next week.</div>

For the last 4 weeks we have been living in Chichester, almost on a kinda stressful vacation. Hoping by the weekend to be in our house. More on that in my next post.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">In the mean time, here is what we have been up to. (Once I get my computer up and running, I will put links to all these places, so you can look for info if you want to visit)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The first full weekend we were back we went to Arundel Castle. We didn't know there was a medieval thing going on at the time. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QPm9j1VpIyc/V5kMO-zYVoI/AAAAAAAAEuE/tJVXe3LU53E/s640/blogger-image--1202012956.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QPm9j1VpIyc/V5kMO-zYVoI/AAAAAAAAEuE/tJVXe3LU53E/s640/blogger-image--1202012956.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We think the castle is pretty good value for money. We took the second from top ticket, and got to see most of the inside of the castle. It was very cool. The medieval event had a village set up. We watched a display of falconry, which was awesome. A great weekend activity. Arundel Castle runs these kind of events quite regularly (there is one this weekend), so it is always worth checking their website.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vVMl05h_vpg/V5kIwFSwSaI/AAAAAAAAEtY/k_TsMYiz8mw/s640/blogger-image--1581800188.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vVMl05h_vpg/V5kIwFSwSaI/AAAAAAAAEtY/k_TsMYiz8mw/s640/blogger-image--1581800188.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We went for a late lunch at the Black Rabbit, a pub just down from the castle. It is worth a visit.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The next day we headed to Hayling, to the east side of the island. There is a park there with exercise equipment. The kids love it, and I can certainly see myself back there on my own! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Tp0jBFlIgwo/V5kN6m2CY7I/AAAAAAAAEuQ/5L3JFBQfgHc/s640/blogger-image--1610262364.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Tp0jBFlIgwo/V5kN6m2CY7I/AAAAAAAAEuQ/5L3JFBQfgHc/s640/blogger-image--1610262364.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The next day we headed to the Aldingbourne Centre. This a centre run by, and for, adults with learning difficulties. It is open to the public, with a farm and petting zoo (various animals), mini golf, woodland walk, and garden centre / cafe. It was ok, but I am not sure we will be back </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AH2G75M3ihM/V5kI79yHwGI/AAAAAAAAEtk/Vlc4X39dWgU/s640/blogger-image-968162934.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AH2G75M3ihM/V5kI79yHwGI/AAAAAAAAEtk/Vlc4X39dWgU/s640/blogger-image-968162934.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We have been fortunate enough to catch up with some mums from one of the baby and toddler groups we used to go to. They have a end of year picnic at Mewsbrook Park in Rustington. This is an awesome park we used to frequent before we left. They have recently upgraded their play equipment and it is great. They also have a miniature train. The train lost funding a couple of years ago, so has not been running. Until this year. Somehow (not sure exactly, enthusiasts maybe? ) they got the train back running, and the mother and baby group were fortunate enough to take part in a test run. The boys loved it, but it was a little chilly and wet.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LXqm9BT3w3Y/V5kMA--3ZuI/AAAAAAAAEt4/GQp-jr5_ohY/s640/blogger-image-262117943.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LXqm9BT3w3Y/V5kMA--3ZuI/AAAAAAAAEt4/GQp-jr5_ohY/s640/blogger-image-262117943.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Fast forward a week, and it was the hottest day of the year (so far). We had landed to go to the beach with some friends, but they had to cancel. We headed anyway to West Wittering. This is a stunning sandy beach, just south of Chichester. The traffic was awful. The day before the school broke up and it took us 50 minutes to do a 20 minute journey. Temporary traffic lights were to blame, but it was well worth it. We stayed at the beach for about 4 hours. It was great.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qT8vcswYBb4/V5kI0daf-AI/AAAAAAAAEtc/SqCnds6FfD8/s640/blogger-image-1726913506.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qT8vcswYBb4/V5kI0daf-AI/AAAAAAAAEtc/SqCnds6FfD8/s640/blogger-image-1726913506.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We went to Chichester Cathedral one afternoon. What a stunning building. Unfortunately my kids were not as well behaved as I would like.....it was not a pleasurable experience for me...... Maybe once they are in school I will come back with a friend or Paul and see it properly. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sPXKFriwPzA/V5kI4OuM0II/AAAAAAAAEtg/uXDRSnqL1dU/s640/blogger-image-1410165783.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sPXKFriwPzA/V5kI4OuM0II/AAAAAAAAEtg/uXDRSnqL1dU/s640/blogger-image-1410165783.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I arranged for the boys to have an intro session at Lavant House Stables. I though horse riding might be good for Isaac. Then the other 2 wanted to do it. The stables were accommodating enough to take all 3 at once. They loved it. And I loved the set up. It is an awesome stables, from what I saw, and I would recommend them. I think it will be a little far from Hayling for us to travel, which is a shame. If anyone has any recommendations for good riding schools in and around Hayling /Havant please let me know!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UJwzYphXYIw/V5kI_9wLzxI/AAAAAAAAEto/ZefpXpm25uQ/s640/blogger-image-204087254.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UJwzYphXYIw/V5kI_9wLzxI/AAAAAAAAEto/ZefpXpm25uQ/s640/blogger-image-204087254.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The slow worm had been making an appearance in the downstairs courtyard. Isaac is not afrai of it at all. The boy loves it, and will handle it where ever possible. If he doesn't work with animals in the future I will be amazed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dtUaXs-To8I/V5kIsH5FThI/AAAAAAAAEtU/-NzGOXTTL5g/s640/blogger-image-1586161070.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dtUaXs-To8I/V5kIsH5FThI/AAAAAAAAEtU/-NzGOXTTL5g/s640/blogger-image-1586161070.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We have a house on Hayling, and we have been going back and forth getting it ready, and moving stuff over. Friday evening we went for a light dinner at the Ferryboat Inn. This is on the east side of the island. There is a passenger ferry starting back up next month to take you from Hayling to Southsea. Dinner was delightful, and the kids played on the beach while we drank Sam Adams on tap! This is somewhere I feel we will be a lot.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CeoRj9D9Euo/V5kMKtWvgUI/AAAAAAAAEuA/JFRdlD8_j80/s640/blogger-image--102554994.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CeoRj9D9Euo/V5kMKtWvgUI/AAAAAAAAEuA/JFRdlD8_j80/s640/blogger-image--102554994.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We went to a Frimley Park Lodge with my dad. It had a great playground for the kids. It also has a portion of the Basingstoke Canal. And a miniature train line, which do rides in the summer. My dad loved it! The kids quite enjoyed it too! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--j6u2QpbSJ0/V5kMFBSV4CI/AAAAAAAAEt8/hoqdd5Lm7UA/s640/blogger-image--1076870517.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--j6u2QpbSJ0/V5kMFBSV4CI/AAAAAAAAEt8/hoqdd5Lm7UA/s640/blogger-image--1076870517.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We have also caught up with some friends, which has been great! Shame Hayling is so far from Littlehampton. No doubt I will work something! Today we saw my friend Faye, and her tribe! The kids had a great time. They really enjoyed themselves. They sat together and had lunch, all 7 of them. I think lunch took over half an hour. They were just having a great time talking to each other. It was great.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-drqLRIZdlJM/V5kInaHWNrI/AAAAAAAAEtQ/-OSwnnQmDas/s640/blogger-image--293628328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-drqLRIZdlJM/V5kInaHWNrI/AAAAAAAAEtQ/-OSwnnQmDas/s640/blogger-image--293628328.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So there you have it. Our mini vacation in Chichester is about to come to an end. Real life is about to kick in HARD. But that's ok. I am more than ready for it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I will write my next post once we are on the house. The kids have schools, so will explain that too. Fingers crossed for a safe, no breakages, move! </div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div>ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-63648251709958556442016-07-13T14:20:00.001+01:002016-07-13T15:09:59.582+01:00A hard start<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We arrived in Chichester to find Heather, the owner of the apartment waiting for us. She had very kindly got us supplies enough to do the day, and sorted out a litter tray for the cat. I stayed in the apartment with the kids while Paul and Heather unloaded the van. In the 20 or so minutes yes the van was unloaded, it's wing mirror was hit! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The apartment is on a narrow road. It has parking on one side of it (permit parking), so cars have to take it in turns to go down the one open lane for traffic. And they don't go slow. It is a narrow road, with narrow foot paths. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The kids were all in bed by 7.... Paul and I managed to hang out till about 10. And no one was up before 10 the next day. Paul headed to the airport to drop back the hire car and meet his dad and brother and collect our car, the big blue bus. About 2 months ago we purchased a Chrysler Grand Voyager 7 seater thing, in the hope that keeping the kids separate will make car journeys easier. We had already decided that we were going to go to Hayling Island on Sunday. While in the states we had decided that this was the place we wanted to live, despite paul never being there, and me only going once as a kid.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Hayling Island is about 25 minutes from Chichester, along the most boring stretch of the A27 known to man. It is one road in, over a bridge. Then divides into two after a long twisty section. We drove around the west side of the island, as that is where a new build we are interested In is taking place. Very nice. Very quiet, houses set back from the road.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We then headed to the beach front. It has a mini amusement park, with a train and some roller coasters. The beach is shingle, and the tide very calm this day. It was also incredibly beautiful</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zztXONLt4wM/V4Y_8vdbeUI/AAAAAAAAEss/Ok42K0IKw_A/s640/blogger-image--245901348.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zztXONLt4wM/V4Y_8vdbeUI/AAAAAAAAEss/Ok42K0IKw_A/s640/blogger-image--245901348.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We were set, this is where we wanted to live. Now to wait for houses to come available to rent. In the mean time, Paul went to work on the Monday. The boys and I tried to find a routine of school work, followed by some form of exercise (stretches, physical training, running around the garden, anything to keep them active), then computer time (kindles)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PmqBeqrdLVk/V4UAs2yew1I/AAAAAAAAEsM/E8Z_fKATstA/s640/blogger-image--1259891715.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PmqBeqrdLVk/V4UAs2yew1I/AAAAAAAAEsM/E8Z_fKATstA/s640/blogger-image--1259891715.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The kids managed to find a slow worm I the garden. This is a type of leg less lizard you get here. This one is about 30 centimetres long, a good size! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E76IEGvkiIQ/V4Y_4Rzc-RI/AAAAAAAAEso/8C9kyEvZs4Q/s640/blogger-image--548952656.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E76IEGvkiIQ/V4Y_4Rzc-RI/AAAAAAAAEso/8C9kyEvZs4Q/s640/blogger-image--548952656.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I have been struggling with a lot of things. I think you might call it cultural acclimatisation...... Biggest thing for me has been the car. I have been used to brand new BMW cars. The Chrysler is about 12 year old, and quite clunky. Although we have a drive way, and the Chrysler does fit, I have struggles to get it in. It has to be reversed due to the parking circumstances. This has made me anxious about driving and parking. Even parking in the supermarket is tricky.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We did make it out on Tuesday. Thanks to one off my friends, I found out about a local farm that makes camomile essential oils. They open their fields for 2 weeks a year. Me and the boys went along.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H-BKBJm21U8/V4UAxg1eUSI/AAAAAAAAEsQ/Dq4W4ZDjwTw/s640/blogger-image--149603962.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H-BKBJm21U8/V4UAxg1eUSI/AAAAAAAAEsQ/Dq4W4ZDjwTw/s640/blogger-image--149603962.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">It really was a quintessential English scene. So peaceful and beautiful even with my boys. We then drove to Selsey sea front, which was ok, but not as nice as Hayling! Driving I back into Chichester to collect Paul from work was trying. I went the wrong way, road works, just a little scary in places.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Tuesday evening I got very anxious, worried and nervous. Just really upset. I knew this was going to be hard, but I don't think I realised how hard. Paul and I spoke about it at length, but no matter how many times he told me it would be alright and things would work out, I was still pretty upset. I cried myself to sleep that night.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">But Wednesday was a new day..... Thanks to friends on Facebook, I found out about the Picturedome in Bognor Regis. This is the towns cinema. Tickets are advised to be booked in advance, as they get busy, some of the screens are small, and the price is <i>very </i>reasonable. I booked the 4 of us to go and see the Secret Life of Pets that afternoon. It cost £11 (about 14 dollars) for the tickets. The snacks we purchased there were only a pound more too. The cinema was tiny, with only 30 seats! And pretty much sold out! The kids loved it (apart from Seb who could not handle the volume, or mild peril in the film)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5ZuklPYFl7M/V4ZAAwvZlxI/AAAAAAAAEsw/CkWB7ZF1zy4/s640/blogger-image--1181324917.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5ZuklPYFl7M/V4ZAAwvZlxI/AAAAAAAAEsw/CkWB7ZF1zy4/s640/blogger-image--1181324917.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Wednesday night I met up with a lady to discuss taking over a Zumba class on a Monday evening. She was lovely, we chatted for over an hour. I went to the class this Monday, and was introduced as the new instructor. I cannot wait to get started next week! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The rest of the week got better. We went to Arundel Castle on Saturday (more in a separate post). I have been to Zumba, which always help! I have been to a couple of different supermarkets, looking for different ingredients for various recipes, and am slowly getting used to how day to day living works here.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Every one seems so grumpy. I know that things here are far from perfect. I might just be used to the American cheerfulness. The consideration for others here seems very low. The weather is pants, but we are still all wearing shorts to make a point! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Although the apartment is nice, it is still small. Paul and I are sleeping on a sofa bed, which is comfortable, but a pain in the butt to get out and put away every day. Luckily the kitchen diner here is a really good size, and even has a sofa in it. Very comfortable for day time naps......</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We went to have a look at the new build development on Sunday just gone. The houses are just too small, boxy with no character what so ever. I think when it comes to buying we will be going for an older house on this land eventually. It did give us another chance to have a look at the island and make sure it is where we want to be. We parked at another area along the seafront, nearer the east of the island. They had some entertainment on, a country band, and that line dancing. <b>Line dancing </b>I am so pleased, and have already found out where the lessons take place! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We have some things in place this week, fingers cross next time I write we will have somewhere to live and the kids will have schools to go to! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div>ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-60404747853679578502016-07-04T21:14:00.001+01:002016-07-06T10:04:41.071+01:00Final USA post and return to UK<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So moving out of the house on the Wednesday and living on the Woodruff Road for 9 days was <i>not</i> how we wanted to spend our last few days in America. I wanted to go to the beach. We initially booked Hilton Head, but this was very expensive. So we cancelled and got a Groupon to Myrtle Beach instead.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">By the time our container was packed on the Friday, we didn't end up leaving Simpsonville till 4 pm, much later than we would normally for a weekend away. We still hit the coast by 8pm, had a quick snack and went to bed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Our resort was not the most upmarket. In fact, I would say it was a dump in places. But it was right on the beach, with 5+ pools.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oamdrZZik0g/V3rDn9DV-hI/AAAAAAAAEr4/hDBF-3_jjNg/s640/blogger-image-1022691643.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oamdrZZik0g/V3rDn9DV-hI/AAAAAAAAEr4/hDBF-3_jjNg/s640/blogger-image-1022691643.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The beach was awesome. Yes, it was busy, but not as busy as it would have been on the main area (we were south of the main strip). We spent 2 days just lounging around the beach, the pools and the hotels. We only left the resort to go and play mini golf.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nwxQzdUgtV0/V3mENG5pCkI/AAAAAAAAErg/wVGSR45920Y/s640/blogger-image-1159469676.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nwxQzdUgtV0/V3mENG5pCkI/AAAAAAAAErg/wVGSR45920Y/s640/blogger-image-1159469676.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We did get the joyous news from the vet on the Saturday morning that the cats documents to be counter signed by the state vet needed to be hand delivered. I thought they would fax a copy to the state vet, and I could pick them upon the way back from Myrtle beach. But no. Our vets signature needed to be in blue ink. Ball ache. We decided to just leave super early on Monday, so I could pick up the documents and drive down to Columbia.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">On with the vacation! More time in the pool, on the beach and more cocktails</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cFuR1Bjtzx8/V3rDkR08jEI/AAAAAAAAEr0/EJj_rsFsK7k/s640/blogger-image-1090515379.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cFuR1Bjtzx8/V3rDkR08jEI/AAAAAAAAEr0/EJj_rsFsK7k/s640/blogger-image-1090515379.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I was able to carry out Monday's day of driving with no issue. Documents all ready and correct for the border patrol and customs.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Tuesday paul went out with some work mates for drinks. The boys and I went for dinner at Christys house. The boys had not seen Edmund in about 9 months. They played beautifully for 4 hours. They ate dinner. Then we had to say 'see you later', but they knew it would be a long time till they saw each other again. Both Isaac and Edmund were in tears, which really did not help Christy and I (welling up as I write this)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ruISMod9f4k/V3rDgxNFruI/AAAAAAAAErw/PnkMvGGTbBU/s640/blogger-image-683206372.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ruISMod9f4k/V3rDgxNFruI/AAAAAAAAErw/PnkMvGGTbBU/s640/blogger-image-683206372.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Thursday morning, paul and I both dropped a small fortune at Krispy Kreme donuts. Paul for work colleagues, me for Sebastian's daycare. Saying good bye to that school was very hard. They have done such great things for Sebastian, and listened to me rant when something else has happened. They are amazingly accommodating. One of the staff from Oliver's school has started working there recently, so the older 2 got to say goodbye to her also. Hard, hard goodbyes......</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Friday morning. We left the hotel by 4.30, and said our good byes to Greenville. We got to the cargo area to drop the cat at about 5.45. Good job too. Her crate was too small by United's standards. Luckily they had one I could purchase. Processing her paper work took nearly an hour!.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Then it was off to drop the car hire, then check in. As we were traveling business class, we were able to check in with a person rather than a machine, and they took the luggage through. Then on to security. Friday before 4th July. Airport was <i>really </i>busy. Through security in under 30 minutes, even with me having a pat down. Amazingly efficient service (as always) at Charlotte airport.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">See that box in the photo?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oDXhf6eQez8/V3mEJVxBI7I/AAAAAAAAErc/nTmepEe3tT4/s640/blogger-image--1607148456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oDXhf6eQez8/V3mEJVxBI7I/AAAAAAAAErc/nTmepEe3tT4/s640/blogger-image--1607148456.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">That's the cat........ Making it on to our first airplane. Bother our planes sat on Tarmac for a while. At our layover in Chicago we made good use of the business lounge. It was just easier than sitting out in the terminal with the boys. We did make sure that they had some food at the terminal, as we thought they would not eat on the plane (we were right).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The second plane sat on Tarmac for about 45 minutes. At least this pilot communicated to us what was happening: technical issues. By now the boys were safely in their seats, and comfortable as anything.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IYFU_55ODow/V3mECnEP7OI/AAAAAAAAErU/Od3hAh6f9hc/s640/blogger-image-1987818346.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IYFU_55ODow/V3mECnEP7OI/AAAAAAAAErU/Od3hAh6f9hc/s640/blogger-image-1987818346.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Once we were on the air, it was a pretty uneventful flight, other than the staff rushing through the dinner service. It wasn't very nice, but at least I had an unlimited, free, supply of craft beer. We even managed to get some sleep, and it was some good sleep for once. The lie down seats seem to have improved in business class since the last time we flew.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The pilot took us around London as he was taxiing to land. Absolutely stunning views. We landed 30 minutes late. Rounding up our luggage was easy, another perk of flying business class.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zwAObF85f8A/V3mEFz_JylI/AAAAAAAAErY/SJDH0xUkdtM/s640/blogger-image-523898330.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zwAObF85f8A/V3mEFz_JylI/AAAAAAAAErY/SJDH0xUkdtM/s640/blogger-image-523898330.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We got through customs very quick. And Paul's dad was there to greet us. It was great to see him, and a huge help. Paul went off to get the hire car, his dad and I went for a coffee then took the boys out side to play in the huge pedestrian area at the bottom of Heathrow Terminal 2.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">It wasn't even a hire car, more of a hire van. We loaded the van, and headed to get the cat. The animal collection area was just a short drive from the terminal. And she was already there. They let the animals out, offer them food, water and use of toilet. I had to wait and out 20 minutes for her paperwork to be checked, and she was released to me. An amazingly efficient service, with awesome staff. Then we were on the road, down to Chichester. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Nothing like the M25 on a Saturday morning......</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div><br></div><br></div><br></div>ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-30338727875397937482016-06-28T18:48:00.001+01:002016-06-28T18:48:53.008+01:00House packing USA style<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So this happened last Wednesday. 2 lovely ladies from the packing company arrived and put everything in boxes. By everything, I MEAN everything. I had to go round and take trash out of their hands before they packed it</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nle_fZlAykA/V3K4b4sr9ZI/AAAAAAAAEqs/QFXtelMSN04/s640/blogger-image-1697885376.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nle_fZlAykA/V3K4b4sr9ZI/AAAAAAAAEqs/QFXtelMSN04/s640/blogger-image-1697885376.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">They got everything left over into boxes. We had already sorted out air freight and plane luggage into separate areas. As soon as I was able to, I moved half the luggage to the hotel, picking up a Sebastian from school on the way.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The boys were dead excited about staying at the hotel. Our good friends, the Barton's, were also here, so the kids had some company. Their container was loaded and sealed on the Wednesday, so we had some ideas on what to expect. Paul arrived at the hotel with the cat about 6pm. Crazy hectic. Then for dinner.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Thursday morning, a team of 3 men arrived to dismantle and wrap the big furniture. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> Paul and I had great fun getting the tv off the wall and into its box, but we did it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--eZwCG58eAE/V3K4hB7C0pI/AAAAAAAAEq4/oerzDkvWmVo/s640/blogger-image--710413231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--eZwCG58eAE/V3K4hB7C0pI/AAAAAAAAEq4/oerzDkvWmVo/s640/blogger-image--710413231.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Once the men had done the boys bedrooms, they each dusted and hovered. These rooms are now ready for the carpet cleaners</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zOISK6KINv4/V3K4Tdz8mcI/AAAAAAAAEqc/P5ocviFyvuA/s640/blogger-image-1333683156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zOISK6KINv4/V3K4Tdz8mcI/AAAAAAAAEqc/P5ocviFyvuA/s640/blogger-image-1333683156.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Thursday went fairly smoothly, but the men finished quite early. We were a little concerned as there was still the garage to pack, and they had found a couple of drawers (my craft drawers) that the ladies had missed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Paul decided to go back <i>early</i> on the Friday morning to get these last bits that were missed and assist as best he could. The boys and I had a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, then headed over to the house. The container was already there when we arrived </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tJdMyGOXics/V3K4WCSSk4I/AAAAAAAAEqg/H0uqauyGtGY/s640/blogger-image--748251653.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tJdMyGOXics/V3K4WCSSk4I/AAAAAAAAEqg/H0uqauyGtGY/s640/blogger-image--748251653.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The kids posed for a few photos, then had some computer time. The guys made good progress. We left them to it, and went for lunch at Fuddruckers. We had hoped initially that they would be done by lunch, so we could get on the road to Myrtle Beach. Alas they were not.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">(Should mention during this time I was sorting the cat. I had to take her to the vet to be checked over so she could get a certificate as being fit to fly. This needed to be hand delivered to the state vet in Columbia for them to counter sign. I did not realize it had to be <i>hand</i> delivered. The original plan was that we would drop by there on the way back from the beach and pick up the <i>faxed</i> copy. This changed our beach plans, but more on that in the next post. The cat was then taken to the cattery for her stay. She is getting a bath this afternoon, so this should be interesting!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We arrived back from lunch about 2. They were nearly done. We popped out to get some sweets for the journey, and an incentive for the guys. (Beer) I think it worked. The container was loaded and signed for by 4pm. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AAqzXU69JHc/V3K4ZKfOWVI/AAAAAAAAEqk/JkzMYeFlH0U/s640/blogger-image-2114070800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AAqzXU69JHc/V3K4ZKfOWVI/AAAAAAAAEqk/JkzMYeFlH0U/s640/blogger-image-2114070800.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">All our stuff in one container, and it wasn't even full! I am sad. Granted, it's not <i>our</i> house as such, but we have lived here for 3 years and 9 months, and it does feel like home.<div><br></div><div>We have had some great times here. And some not so great. Life generally is what you make it, and we have tried to make the best of what we have here. This house is huge. Too big really. The kids can go room to room making a mess. If paul didn't get on at them about it, we would live in squalor. I get to them (eventually), but there are too many rooms. </div><div><br></div><div>We shall miss the nice big fenced in yard. The large 2 car garage (with automatic openers). The big open plan kitchen and living area. The boys play room (though they tend to play in the living room since their tv is gone) was good in its time, and since we moved the Lego in there they have been playing there a lot more. The office room, which has since turned into the computer and craft room. Such good light for taking photos! It's funny how the rooms have evolved and grown as out interests and hobbies have changed. </div><div><br></div><div>Upstairs has not changed. Sebastian and Isaac still share, and still do well for it. Oliver loves having his own space. We need at <i>least </i>three bedrooms. Isaac and Seb won't share forever. Hormones will not allow it. Out lovely big master suite with living area (waste of space) and en suite bathroom. That is a big bathroom. The walk in closet. Loved having that. Shame we have bought enough clothes to actually fill it (under bed storage boxes here we come).</div><div><br></div><div>The pool. Ahh the pool. The community pool. We have loved it. In the height of summer, it is much needed. Our boys have loved it, as have we. Such a good thing to have. I know the HOA fees are high here, but the pool makes up for it. There have been many a time we have had the pool to our selves. Our boys also tend to scare people away. Not so much this year, but in previous years, yes.......</div><div><br></div><div>This subdivision is lovely. The boys and I took a little stroll this morning. Well. They scooted (fast) and I just about kept up. Part of their twice daily summer exercise. It is so lovely. Being on a road with gorgeous houses in a circuit. Pretty much all houses back on to a creek or an adjoining neighborhood or free land. Wonderful,though you do need to drive about 7 minutes to hit a main road. </div><div><br></div><div>Tomorrow the packers arrive. I have sorted suitcases for the next 9 days. One for the local hotel, one for out beach trip, another for the local hotel, then another 3 full of England clothes (trainers, trousers, cardigans, jumpers) and any thing additional from the closets. They are bare, and have been for a few days.</div><div><br></div><div>We are in for some craziness until we get packed up. Fingers crossed they are done by Friday at noon, as that is when we would like to leave for the beach.</div><div><br></div><div>I am now down to my ipad. We packed the computer today (sob). If you would like to see photos, please search Have Goslings must Travel on Facebook. We have a page.</div><div><br></div><div>I shall miss this place. Not sure we will ever live somewhere like this again. But that would not be a bad thing..... </div><div><br></div><div>Looking forward to the next chapter. I hope the packers like cookies and muffins</div>ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-8385583657744962532016-06-08T17:31:00.000+01:002016-06-22T03:16:50.482+01:00Thing I will miss about South CarolinaI have been meaning to do this post for a while. Given we are 2 weeks away from the house getting packed, this would seem like a good time.<br>
<br>
This is a list of things I am going to miss. Some of them are relevant to just this area or state, and some are relevant to the whole country. Some are just for me, and some are as a family.<br>
<br>
Some will be couple of words, others will be paragraphs. As we conclude our lives here, this list will be added to. It is also something for me to look back on fondly (hopefully).<br>
<br>
So in no particular order.......<br>
<br>
1. The weather. It is going to be over 90 degrees this weekend. Winter lasts about 3 months tops. Snow dissipates quickly. The kids live in shorts from March- November. But it does get too hot. But I don't mind.<br>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
2. The mountains. I have never really lived near mountains before. As you drive up the interstate 385 from Simpsonville into Greenville, just after the mall turning, you get an awesome view of the mountains. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rkd8ID7oJmo/V1oYr8J7F_I/AAAAAAAAEpw/UZeASY4ADjQ/s640/blogger-image-1837913045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rkd8ID7oJmo/V1oYr8J7F_I/AAAAAAAAEpw/UZeASY4ADjQ/s640/blogger-image-1837913045.jpg"></a></div> </div><div>You can also see them from other places around Simpsonville. Although we don't utilize them much, I shall miss having them near.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
3. The Y. The gym. We have had a family membership since the end of 2014. Should have got one sooner. I love taking Zumba, Cardio Dance Blast and TRX at the gym. The 2 younger ones had swimming lessons there. Oliver honed his basketball kills. They all love running the indoor track. I love it, and shall miss it terribly.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
4. My Zumba family. The Zumba instructor network in this area is awesome. From the instructors at the Y to the Free community Zumba at the Kroc Centre, to the various churches and individual studios that host Zumba classes. I have met a LOT of Zumba instructors. And everyone is so nice!!! I am so glad I got my Zumba licences here, under Loretta Bates, Ali Ramirez and Renee Pickett. They are brilliant ZES, and have taught me well. I have even taught my first class here, subbing for a friend. I love my Zumba buddies!</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
5. The craft stores..... Micheals, Jo-Ann Fabric, A.C. Moore and Panda's Crossing. My introduction to crafting then beading has been in large parts thanks to these stores. I will particularly miss Panda's Crossing, and the lovely ladies who host the classes.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
6. The wild life. Turkey vultures, blue tailed skinks, even the snakes.... </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zfXdvZeispM/V1hH9d3STEI/AAAAAAAAEpg/zmfIidCbqT4kySsOyyrjYXJ0msCT507gQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5299.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zfXdvZeispM/V1hH9d3STEI/AAAAAAAAEpg/zmfIidCbqT4kySsOyyrjYXJ0msCT507gQCLcB/s320/IMG_5299.JPG" width="320"></a></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
7. The coast. Ok, we are a good 3 hours from the coast, and are hoping to move nearer the coast in the UK. But the east coast here is wonderful. Dolphins, sea turtles, fish. We love it. </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
8. The darn convenience of the restrooms. Every store has a restroom for public use. Every park and outside area has at least one toilet block. Exceptionally good when you have small children.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
9. Eating out. We eat out. A lot. we look for kids set free / cheap, and use these as much as possible. I shall miss the variety, and the (generally) good service.</div>

So school is officially out for 2 of the monkeys. Given that Sebastian is in a day care setting, he will be staying in school till the day before we leave, for everyones sanity.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They have all had their leaving ceremonies, so here are the pictures and details of them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Sebastian</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sebastian graduated from Junior Kindergarten on 17th May. Until this I had always thought that this small kids graduations were farcical. But they are not. Seb has been in his school for over 2 years. If we were staying, he would be leaving anyway and heading off to Kindergarten, probably at Isaacs school. Some of the kids in his class have been at his school since they were infants. They have grown up there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xyu964vLcrw/V070tz73UwI/AAAAAAAAEo8/KZznwdlj0c43J43BJD9iSl9zrl8qF4zfgCLcB/s1600/IMG_9642.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xyu964vLcrw/V070tz73UwI/AAAAAAAAEo8/KZznwdlj0c43J43BJD9iSl9zrl8qF4zfgCLcB/s320/IMG_9642.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Before they went and put their cap and gowns on, they did a little performance, where they recited and acted out nursery rhymes. It was so cute. Seb was a mouse in the rhyme 'Pussy cat, pussy cat'. So cute.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--pbWF8w_Fhw/V070lcjwiiI/AAAAAAAAEoo/fn1bI1t-hqkDE9rU3fZ2g9ilzrcSqJwOgCLcB/s1600/IMG_5186.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--pbWF8w_Fhw/V070lcjwiiI/AAAAAAAAEoo/fn1bI1t-hqkDE9rU3fZ2g9ilzrcSqJwOgCLcB/s320/IMG_5186.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They all looked so good in their gowns, which the school provided. It was a great evening for Seb.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XcZQS_jxrnM/V070oSZ73tI/AAAAAAAAEos/U1NSjOUOQEwgUUS_MIMeVT0F9CcWx3W5ACLcB/s1600/IMG_5198.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XcZQS_jxrnM/V070oSZ73tI/AAAAAAAAEos/U1NSjOUOQEwgUUS_MIMeVT0F9CcWx3W5ACLcB/s320/IMG_5198.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Isaac</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Isaac didn't have a ceremony or awards as such. He had field day. This is basically sports day. Paul took the day off, and I joined him after TRX. Isaacs class went round to different activities on their field. It was hot. We were all grateful it was early in the morning </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Dx4vLSrEwg/V070s4rx8WI/AAAAAAAAEo4/TJtwSOVp_Q0AlYj2-hkQZcGMuKFa2Y9zQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Dx4vLSrEwg/V070s4rx8WI/AAAAAAAAEo4/TJtwSOVp_Q0AlYj2-hkQZcGMuKFa2Y9zQCLcB/s320/IMG_5223.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you read this blog, and know us, you will know that Isaac often struggles in these kind of situations. He did a little here. There were a few things he didn't want to do, but that was ok. It is accepted that he is a little different, and accommodations are made. Another reason why his school rocks. He did however LOVE the assault course.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ePOMbuPRCWw/V070rvmOz7I/AAAAAAAAEow/aos6Bdi-BjYFTp8TW036mBa1SrBNCtd2wCLcB/s1600/IMG_5256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ePOMbuPRCWw/V070rvmOz7I/AAAAAAAAEow/aos6Bdi-BjYFTp8TW036mBa1SrBNCtd2wCLcB/s320/IMG_5256.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The thing the kids loved most about field day? The fire truck</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-beqt-Q_tkF0/V070xYRMz4I/AAAAAAAAEpA/6ucjKGaLH-01dBuoQjfHQ10HLLSkSbG9wCLcB/s1600/IMG_5261.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-beqt-Q_tkF0/V070xYRMz4I/AAAAAAAAEpA/6ucjKGaLH-01dBuoQjfHQ10HLLSkSbG9wCLcB/s320/IMG_5261.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After all classes have done their activities on the field, a fire truck from Simpsonville Fire Department turns up and they take it in turns to be sprayed by the hose.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-In1FIt1NRGM/V070sXiZLXI/AAAAAAAAEo0/tdwdSlR0Ab0f5ooX_hvN5Fkb1JSwWdRvQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5257.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-In1FIt1NRGM/V070sXiZLXI/AAAAAAAAEo0/tdwdSlR0Ab0f5ooX_hvN5Fkb1JSwWdRvQCLcB/s320/IMG_5257.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They absolutely loved it, and had a great day. Isaac did so well. He has excelled at that school, and we will miss his teacher, Mrs Wingo, so much. She has been fabulous for him. We will certainly be keeping in touch! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Oliver</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He was the first to finish! On his birthday I went in for his birthday blessing in Chapel. This coincided with the 4th grade leavers service. His school finishes lower school a grade earlier than public schools in South Carolina. After his leavers service was his exhibition. This is a piece of work that they do in groups on a particular topic. Kinda like a dissertation piece. Oliver got to work with his 2 best friends. Not sure how much work they did....... Their exhibition topic was shelter, and they chose to do animals and natural disasters. They did a powerpoint presentation. It was pretty good! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xh1v7qP_pfc/V070z0hInVI/AAAAAAAAEpE/JyGA5J2gMekJB_5_2NFScVLQLtss8ughQCLcB/s1600/IMG_9698.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xh1v7qP_pfc/V070z0hInVI/AAAAAAAAEpE/JyGA5J2gMekJB_5_2NFScVLQLtss8ughQCLcB/s320/IMG_9698.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oliver had a leaving presentation on the wednesday of the same week. We went to this last year also. It is held out side. As he was leaving this year, like the rest of his grade, a big emphasis was placed on the 4th graders. Oliver received a certificate for his work in safety patrol (car pool). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eOyFf3FN7SY/V070HDY7XhI/AAAAAAAAEog/OC0n1AQyk8oRnhXa_kt1M1S9kp-pALUZwCLcB/s1600/IMG_9708.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eOyFf3FN7SY/V070HDY7XhI/AAAAAAAAEog/OC0n1AQyk8oRnhXa_kt1M1S9kp-pALUZwCLcB/s320/IMG_9708.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oliver has been in CCES for 4 years. For him, it has been the perfect school. He has done so well. If we did this whole experience again, I am not sure we would go with the same school options, but hindsight is a difficult thing to gauge. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know that ALL the boys schools have been the right choices for them THIS year. They have all had a really good year, even with the issues we have had. I think they have done really well, and have a really good basis to continue their education back in England.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't wait to have them all in the same school (hopefully!!!)</div>
<br />
<br />

So the little baby in the picture turned 10 last week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vhDG0KrBNYo/V02ZrwK0J6I/AAAAAAAAEn4/P5_y-McNB3YvlQGZsU3lGMx8BrsZFWyIACLcB/s1600/100_1810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vhDG0KrBNYo/V02ZrwK0J6I/AAAAAAAAEn4/P5_y-McNB3YvlQGZsU3lGMx8BrsZFWyIACLcB/s320/100_1810.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10. Double digits. 3 years away from teenage angst. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uNBhzVnCqFM/V02ZrmNq6BI/AAAAAAAAEn0/KA40TrzH6DIHmH_1-zBts-4FKPsXM-_9ACLcB/s1600/IMG_5211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uNBhzVnCqFM/V02ZrmNq6BI/AAAAAAAAEn0/KA40TrzH6DIHmH_1-zBts-4FKPsXM-_9ACLcB/s320/IMG_5211.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Loved majorly by his brothers. They adore him so much, even if he can me a meanie with very little compassion. This boy finds it hard to say sorry...... Doesn't stop us from loving him.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HQfYUTruQjg/V02ZwVr2yWI/AAAAAAAAEoI/JxJUW89rv60JVWSBLAPRvDpo_GKzpAWWACLcB/s1600/IMG_9669.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HQfYUTruQjg/V02ZwVr2yWI/AAAAAAAAEoI/JxJUW89rv60JVWSBLAPRvDpo_GKzpAWWACLcB/s320/IMG_9669.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As kids get older, their presents get smaller and more expensive. Oliver got lots of Lego, mainly the Lego Speed Racers. And a 2x2 Rubix cube (thanks Jen, it was his most coveted present.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As his birthday treat on the day, he chose to go to Frankie's Fun Park to play mini golf. This should have been fun. Unfortunately mean mummy has started keeping score. When someone was not doing well, yet the 7 year old was, we had major paddy. Sometimes I wonder if he is turing 10..... We then had dinner at Johnny Rockets before coming home for cake. Oliver ummmeddd and aadddded for so long over what kind of cake he wanted, mummy took things into her own hands.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
(Don't ask why Alfa Romeo is his favorite manufacturer of cars. I blame Jeremy Clarkson. We can't always guide our children in the right direction. Sometimes we have to accept their bad choices and move on as graciously as possible)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0bFVqJoBihM/V02Ztyc1ljI/AAAAAAAAEoA/bkkiPWVcdycNTrYuK-S1u9zg2vWCudm6QCLcB/s1600/IMG_5222.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0bFVqJoBihM/V02Ztyc1ljI/AAAAAAAAEoA/bkkiPWVcdycNTrYuK-S1u9zg2vWCudm6QCLcB/s320/IMG_5222.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oliver got a special birthday treat from Nanny and Granddad. They paid for him to get his license at a local Karting track, <a href="http://lemanskarting.com/greenville/" target="_blank">Le Mans Karting</a>.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CKM1hYan3lM/V02Zs7jrIrI/AAAAAAAAEn8/97WLKuxGToIU-4x6vTjTiD_UGnGyYGuvQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5272.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CKM1hYan3lM/V02Zs7jrIrI/AAAAAAAAEn8/97WLKuxGToIU-4x6vTjTiD_UGnGyYGuvQCLcB/s320/IMG_5272.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Needless to say he loved this. It led to discussions about taking up karting when we return to the UK (Our bank balance has been wincing ever since). Oliver loves racing, as does Seb, so we are seriously considering it. If anyone had any advice hints or tips about karting in the south of England let me know. I love insider knowledge.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My boys love a good podium!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3qk3S5VCGCU/V02Zu3busxI/AAAAAAAAEoE/XRbq7gGAMFEeJkQ6utxqt8WuAASo-MOHwCLcB/s1600/IMG_5286.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3qk3S5VCGCU/V02Zu3busxI/AAAAAAAAEoE/XRbq7gGAMFEeJkQ6utxqt8WuAASo-MOHwCLcB/s320/IMG_5286.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Can't believe he is 10. Where is the time going? He has always been a good boy, a hard worker. Academically he is flying, doing awesome in reading and math. He can be conscientious (when he thinks no one is looking). He loves his family and his brothers. He likes to be the best, he likes to win. But understands it is not always possible. He tries. And we love him. He is our first attempt, and I think we are doing pretty well so far! </div>
<br />

<br />
I never finished up the end of our holiday west. To be honest, the last day we went out for lunch (if you are ever on the west coast, check out <a href="http://burgeraptos.com/" target="_blank">burger</a>. They are excellent), chilled around the house and prepared ourselves to come home. The flight and journey were smooth. We got back very late and straight into the swing of things. <br />
<br />
Here is a rough break down of what has happened since our return.<br />
<br />
Before holiday, Isaac was assessed by the behavioral psychologists at a provider called Clarity. They were very thorough. Although we have not had the final report, Paul and I attended a follow up appointment. It basically looks like he is ADHD/ADD with a <strike>lot</strike> bit of ODD thrown in. ODD stands for Oppositional Defiant Disorder. We were not overly surprised. The psychologist recommended family therapy once we return to the UK to help us learn strategies and techniques to help. Like we haven't already. His behavior is still a little erratic, but not as bad. I think this is because we know how to deal with the nuances of Isaac. At least we have a report to go to his next school with. We were able to find out that he has an IQ of 116, and is reading 2 years above his age.<br />
<br />
As is Oliver. He had a conference, and is doing really well. No complaints from anyone.<br />
<br />
Both Isaac and Sebastian have been sick. Seb vomited on the way to school one day. Isaac was sent home a week later with a temperature of 102. Both better now.<br />
<br />
We went to the 4 lane <a href="http://www.charlottemotorspeedway.com/tickets/nhra_carolina_nationals/" target="_blank">drag strip</a> in Charlotte. Funnily enough, its right by the NASCAR track. It was good fun. But very loud. And very hot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B-OHSPwJHms/Vyjd5UWOGxI/AAAAAAAAEmw/ljLdZeKzTK8Z_pezQVCpa0nxFwmTMZUDgCLcB/s1600/IMG_5140.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B-OHSPwJHms/Vyjd5UWOGxI/AAAAAAAAEmw/ljLdZeKzTK8Z_pezQVCpa0nxFwmTMZUDgCLcB/s320/IMG_5140.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I did a craft fair at Oliver's school. Though it wasn't very busy, I did pretty well, and have high hopes for continuing the craft fairs in the UK. (Side note - if you know of any good ones on the south coast, let me know)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WNFk9mtsudk/Vyjd6uove8I/AAAAAAAAEm0/DCqZBIslRc8-myorRIUkY5pfuSZDwYvpwCLcB/s1600/IMG_9540.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WNFk9mtsudk/Vyjd6uove8I/AAAAAAAAEm0/DCqZBIslRc8-myorRIUkY5pfuSZDwYvpwCLcB/s320/IMG_9540.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And the move...... 59 days till we fly, 50 days till the house gets packed. Our landlords are selling this house. We have had painters both inside and out. Yesterday they came and took professional photos. The house looked like a show home. I hope they manage to sell quickly so I don't have too many viewings to tidy up for!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YugWQjCxJcw/Vyjd8EzyTnI/AAAAAAAAEm4/WC_W3ywrlFYwcXeH6_13P-9pR5ypmt8OACLcB/s1600/IMG_9544.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YugWQjCxJcw/Vyjd8EzyTnI/AAAAAAAAEm4/WC_W3ywrlFYwcXeH6_13P-9pR5ypmt8OACLcB/s320/IMG_9544.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I think we are all excited about going back to England. Yes, it will be different. I see many steep learning curves. But I am excited all the same!<br />
<br />
This weekend I am going on a TRX training course. I am excited, yet anxious. I hope my fitness level is where it needs to be. I am looking forward to purchasing the equipment, and setting it up at home so I can teach Paul and the kids. If you don't know what TRX is, check out this video<br />

Right, I am off to engross my self in my manual. <br />

One of the things with holidaying on the west coast is the abundance of wildlife. Yes, the cities are very densely populated, but you get 30 miles out of a city, and there is very little there. We couldn't get over how green everything was. It is well known that there are many whale migrations up and down the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. We had to see whales.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We drove from the house in Aptos to Monterey Bay. The countryside was absolutely stunning. Americas fruit basket, with fields as far as the eye can see. We arrived in Monterey with plenty of time to spare, so had a little drive around. You could see sea lions from the road. They were lazing around on rocks. The houses are very higgledy piggledy, but beautiful all the same. Some very nice looking guest houses. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We parked up, not too far from Fishermans Wharf. A restroom stop was needed, and I came out to find the boys watching the sea lions. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IEJ7ma7OAGk/Vw-QW6kcAXI/AAAAAAAAEj8/LXM63fNYpL4kjyA7iiMHKHVmQa9m5HmDwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4876.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IEJ7ma7OAGk/Vw-QW6kcAXI/AAAAAAAAEj8/LXM63fNYpL4kjyA7iiMHKHVmQa9m5HmDwCLcB/s320/IMG_4876.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was another trip we booked in advance. Goos job too, as they were fully booked for a few days. We went with <a href="http://www.gowhales.com/" target="_blank">Monterey Bay Whale Watch</a>, the company the BBC used when they were filming their 'Big Blue' series a couple of years ago. Their website is really good. You are able to go on and see records of what they have seen in the years previous. They also have a very good <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Monterey-Bay-Whale-Watch-170012223096521/info/?tab=overview" target="_blank">Facebook</a> page, which we have been following since the New Year. This helped give us an idea as to what we might see. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As we headed out of harbor, first ting we saw (and smelled) was the sea lions around the harbor wall. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gi4WmNa_tjc/Vw-QYb9Z6hI/AAAAAAAAEkE/BuxbbMd9ugoraN4SzGpcDqjCkMLBwsCXwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4879.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gi4WmNa_tjc/Vw-QYb9Z6hI/AAAAAAAAEkE/BuxbbMd9ugoraN4SzGpcDqjCkMLBwsCXwCLcB/s320/IMG_4879.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It didn't take long for us see our first whale. It was a humpback, you can know this by their blow pattern (apparently!!!). </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tlKa0x7UrLA/Vw-QWYso0UI/AAAAAAAAEj4/LQBbXPbcMmwdWGribqHnWhTLTk_KBvKwgCLcB/s1600/IMG_4893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tlKa0x7UrLA/Vw-QWYso0UI/AAAAAAAAEj4/LQBbXPbcMmwdWGribqHnWhTLTk_KBvKwgCLcB/s320/IMG_4893.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All in, we saw 12 humpback whales, one fin whale and 2 different types of dolphins. This was an awesome experience, with the boys getting really in to it too. They were so happy when they started seeing the whales. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M1m46VQRgSs/Vw-QX7DdyxI/AAAAAAAAEkA/gEnX4SbqDFIVRqlj-yqYfgbeOnaB62aEQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M1m46VQRgSs/Vw-QX7DdyxI/AAAAAAAAEkA/gEnX4SbqDFIVRqlj-yqYfgbeOnaB62aEQCLcB/s320/IMG_4901.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At one point, there were five whales, all in different directions around the boat. Amazing. A little bit gutted we didn't see any killer whales, but the humpbacks were amazing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Back on dry land, another rest room stop. This time, the boys were loving the sea otter! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--MOinykU8Xc/Vw-QYlJPYuI/AAAAAAAAEkI/8BhoOpOrCosJ5SzbuQLeu66eC_Uoj3JPwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4937.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--MOinykU8Xc/Vw-QYlJPYuI/AAAAAAAAEkI/8BhoOpOrCosJ5SzbuQLeu66eC_Uoj3JPwCLcB/s320/IMG_4937.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After a quick lunch, we jumped in the car. Paul and I wanted to drive some of State Highway 1, another bucket list thing. We headed in the direction of Big Sur, south of Monterey. We knew we weren't gong to get all the way there, but we had a destination in mind. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bixby_Creek_Bridge" target="_blank">Bixby Creek Bridge </a>originally opened in 1932. Prior to that, residents of Big Sur were effectively cut off in winter. This is one of the most photographed bridges on the West Coast<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F7fouXK_nQY/Vw-QcuPjMyI/AAAAAAAAEkU/R421zb0YADk2w7vMIXbqL4x0yt29w6X7QCLcB/s1600/IMG_9313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F7fouXK_nQY/Vw-QcuPjMyI/AAAAAAAAEkU/R421zb0YADk2w7vMIXbqL4x0yt29w6X7QCLcB/s320/IMG_9313.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We turned around at the bridge. One day, when I am old and grey, I want to drive State Highway 1 from San Francisco to Baja California. One day.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next stop on our magical mystery tour: <a href="http://www.mazdaraceway.com/" target="_blank">Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway</a>. Cos I am married to a racing fanatic, and have 3 boys. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o0h3owuArpI/Vw-QcJHLSlI/AAAAAAAAEkQ/CUGR2lu_rUIbuVJ2VX0eInekJ9348PO9gCLcB/s1600/IMG_9318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o0h3owuArpI/Vw-QcJHLSlI/AAAAAAAAEkQ/CUGR2lu_rUIbuVJ2VX0eInekJ9348PO9gCLcB/s320/IMG_9318.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The raceway is run by Monterey Country Parks. You have to pay a small fee ($8) to enter, but then you are free to explore. When we were there, the BMW motorbike school was just finishing up their day. We had a little walk around the pit area, had a look in the gift shop and generally took in an empty track. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_MzI2gN8lmU/Vw-QbalX5FI/AAAAAAAAEkM/aqZ8mqHpb_oWuqovMbO39OG_SFqYndl7ACLcB/s1600/IMG_4947.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_MzI2gN8lmU/Vw-QbalX5FI/AAAAAAAAEkM/aqZ8mqHpb_oWuqovMbO39OG_SFqYndl7ACLcB/s320/IMG_4947.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We then drove up to the famous cork screw, before driving back to Aptos. This was such an awesome day. We hit so many bucket list things. So glad we made it West. </div>
<br />
<br />ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-66449928318478623632016-04-18T14:08:00.000+01:002016-04-18T14:08:35.118+01:00Goslings Go West - Santa Cruz <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We knew that where we were staying on the beach in Aptos was not very far away from Santa Cruz. Growing up, we had the song by the Strokes about Santa Cruz, so it was one of the places we always wanted to visit. So on the wednesday we decided to take a little drive there. We knew there was a board walk with rides and mini golf.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The <a href="http://beachboardwalk.com/" target="_blank">Boardwalk</a> operates on a ticket scheme. You get a card from a machine, then pay money to load it up with tickets. A lot of the fun fairs and carnival these days do it like this. I like it. We loaded the card up with $70, and off we went.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First stop, Buccaneer Bay Mini Golf. My kids love mini golf. I can't stand it. This one was cool though. It had a UV section. We have worked hard getting the boys to play properly. They are good. They wait for each other to finish, and cheer each other on. This was the first time I had kept score. Paul and I don't play. We supervise! Unsurprisingly, Oliver won, Isaac came second and Sebastian last. But it was closer than we expected.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9gs_gQS9KEM/VwUjUTjkFBI/AAAAAAAAEjU/82LmQWXV8yESlPPe_ylMEeSL0X5AwYJtA/s1600/IMG_9265.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9gs_gQS9KEM/VwUjUTjkFBI/AAAAAAAAEjU/82LmQWXV8yESlPPe_ylMEeSL0X5AwYJtA/s320/IMG_9265.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we entered the Boardwalk for real. You could certainly tell it was spring break! It was busy. I would not have enjoyed it in the height of summer. The boys spotted a ride called Speedway, with lots of Nascars. It flew really fast around the corners! They loved it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fq64TiG_GnE/VwUjTOOIxjI/AAAAAAAAEjM/KNir5Q9WmbcM8eSbvFRdo_2rb7eWZmBbQ/s1600/IMG_4857.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fq64TiG_GnE/VwUjTOOIxjI/AAAAAAAAEjM/KNir5Q9WmbcM8eSbvFRdo_2rb7eWZmBbQ/s320/IMG_4857.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up was a horse racing game, where you had to throw balls to make your horse move. Luckily we were the only ones taking part. Sebastian won, with a little help from daddy! He won a soft toy of a pickle, which has since been named Mr Pickle......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then on to the Jet Copters for Isaac and Seb. Paul and Oliver did Rock and Roll, a spiny ride. and I got to sit them both out, phew! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uc7PJF6WphI/VwUjQ-WYZFI/AAAAAAAAEjE/GlWta9OW5PQ1egebgf8Pp1vBc0kw_M-bQ/s1600/IMG_4861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uc7PJF6WphI/VwUjQ-WYZFI/AAAAAAAAEjE/GlWta9OW5PQ1egebgf8Pp1vBc0kw_M-bQ/s320/IMG_4861.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We did a couple more rides, the Cave Train springs to mind, before we ran out of money. Setting a limit on what we spend is the best way for us to have these kind of days out. It helps make the kids aware that they can't do everything!!! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MLLmZJlm7UA/VwUjTAtYHkI/AAAAAAAAEjI/JFqE8bqR9F8XEHCeC0MzrMehIm7OHWU4A/s1600/IMG_4869.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MLLmZJlm7UA/VwUjTAtYHkI/AAAAAAAAEjI/JFqE8bqR9F8XEHCeC0MzrMehIm7OHWU4A/s320/IMG_4869.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This boardwalk rocked. It had a good variety of rides and attractions. We could have spent a lot more time and money, so I am glad we put a limit on these things. Santa Cruz looks like a beautiful place to visit. Quite touristy, but given we had just done the Grand Canyon and Vegas, it was nice for us to be able to go back to our little house on the beach, sit on the balcony, and watch the sun go down behind the palm tree. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6178584332262914680.post-75004288442846780742016-04-14T16:00:00.000+01:002016-04-14T16:01:21.947+01:00Goslings Go West - San Francisco<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the tuesday we awoke early. This was our day to go to San Francisco! I had booked our tickets to for the boat to go to Alcatraz as soon as they became available. They recommend you book in advance, and take bookings 3 months in advance (when we were there, there were no available tickets till 3 days later!). We were booked on the 9.10am boat. We left the house with plenty of time to spare. 90 minutes to do a 40 minute journey.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Alas, traffic was completely against us. rush hour traffic, a big west coast city. Not a good combination. We made it to the dock for 9.15, but still had to park the car. By the time we had done that, and faffed around, it was 9.45 when we got to the <a href="https://www.alcatrazcruises.com/" target="_blank">ticket</a> desk. Paul went and asked what we could do. Luckily they had a system, where our tickets were changed to standby tickets. We had a rest room stop, and went to the standby waiting area. Luckily we were first in the queue and managed to get on the 10am boat. Phew! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wdf88ChBZF0/VwPQ_GUAwoI/AAAAAAAAEiY/96CXgMxitz037fewg8LeqOY31UW92I6iw/s1600/IMG_4740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wdf88ChBZF0/VwPQ_GUAwoI/AAAAAAAAEiY/96CXgMxitz037fewg8LeqOY31UW92I6iw/s320/IMG_4740.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was a pleasant enough boat ride. Kids were good, not too busy. Approaching the dock was pretty special. You get off the boat, and go and listen to a brief talk my a member of the National Park Service. Most people at least know a brief <a href="https://www.nps.gov/alca/index.htm" target="_blank">history</a> of Alcatraz. This is in part thanks to a film, 'The Rock'.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zVOekj9IScw/VwPRBMenzbI/AAAAAAAAEic/Pgf5okl8uUIhhmGK4pj0bSXtFOEVpFLMA/s1600/IMG_4743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zVOekj9IScw/VwPRBMenzbI/AAAAAAAAEic/Pgf5okl8uUIhhmGK4pj0bSXtFOEVpFLMA/s320/IMG_4743.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We headed to the top of the island, to the Cell Block. This area has an award winning audio tour. We all took head sets. Within minutes, Sebastian had given up. Oliver and Isaac followed the tour really well. Isaac got a little bored when we went outside, but he soon caught up.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3_nr0eLbmsY/VwPRCUyAwzI/AAAAAAAAEig/VG9OIFnmhEcdgF3u7xlzyZFluPF2anKWA/s1600/IMG_4766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3_nr0eLbmsY/VwPRCUyAwzI/AAAAAAAAEig/VG9OIFnmhEcdgF3u7xlzyZFluPF2anKWA/s320/IMG_4766.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
An audio tour is not something we would usually do, but the kids are getting older and these kind go things are more possible. There was only one little bit near the end where Isaac nearly freaked out, and Oliver looked a little worried, but overall it was suitable for them. Given my boys curiosities, I am surprised we have not had more questions regarding some of the topics raised. May be they will come soon.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We toured a little bit more of the island. By about midday, everyone had had enough. We headed back to the boat, back to the main land. I would highly recommend Alcatraz as a visitors attraction. But make sure you book, and try to go when it is not too busy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once back on the mainland we walked from Pier 33 round to Pier 39. This is one of the really touristy bits of San Francisco. It is where the sea lions are!!!! You have to walk all the way to the end of the pier to see them </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ShRHkk6hEeg/VwPRCYvABiI/AAAAAAAAEik/tjG3Pyt-vPkP4fm8AVYWtMIhkg1tVhYnw/s1600/IMG_4802.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ShRHkk6hEeg/VwPRCYvABiI/AAAAAAAAEik/tjG3Pyt-vPkP4fm8AVYWtMIhkg1tVhYnw/s320/IMG_4802.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But its ok, you will SMELL them first!!!! My kids loved this, as to be expected. This pier was busy. It was heading to the end of lunch. We had not eaten, so we found somewhere. It wasn't great, but we were hungry by then! We did a little bit of souvenir shopping before heading to see the sea lions again. Sebastian in particular loved them. Then back to the car. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We all wanted to go to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lombard_Street_%28San_Francisco%29" target="_blank">Lombard Street</a>. In particular, the section between Hyde and Leavenworth Street, where there are 8 switch backs down a steep incline. The street was originally built in 1922. It rocked! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MohFUjWZPDQ/VwPRGzETr_I/AAAAAAAAEio/7sUYVBZ2tf8Br7I03-4ti4RXHbKWhueow/s1600/IMG_9240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MohFUjWZPDQ/VwPRGzETr_I/AAAAAAAAEio/7sUYVBZ2tf8Br7I03-4ti4RXHbKWhueow/s320/IMG_9240.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From there, it had to be the Golden Gate Bridge. We were initially going to drive it, but rush hour, traffic and tolls made us rethink our decision. Instead we chose to come off the highway aand head to the visitors centre. We ended up parking in a new car park, the other side of the highway from the visitor centre, and walking along a bike trail under the bridge. Cool!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are a few little bits and pieces to do here, a cafe, a gift shop etc. We read a lot of the history and info boards there. very interesting. I think if we had had more time, looked into it in more detail and not had (3 very tired by now) boys with us, we may have explored the other side of the bridge. But time was short, this was still a holiday after all! too much rushing around makes Goslings go crazy!!!! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We jumped in the car and headed back to Aptos. I loved San Francisco. I really would like to go back, <i>sans kids,</i> and explore more of the culture there. It is a stunning city. </div>

We got to Phoenix airport nice and early. We were starting to get used to security now, especially with me having pat downs rather than going through the machines due to my medical devices. Phoenix airport is a little dated. Didn't stop the boys from loving the travelators though.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Our flight ended up being delayed. We did think this might happen. When I booked it, google gave me a warning that 75% of these flights were delayed. Never mind, gave us time to have a leisurely breakfast and for the boys to have some kindle time.</div>

Once we were on the plane it was less than 2 hours to San Francisco. We picked up our luggage and jumped on the monorail to the car rental place. Funny how all the airports are doing this now. Putting all the car rental companies together under one roof, just on the outskirts of the airport. Luckily this rental company had enough cars! We left in a nice BIG Chevrolet Tahoe. The drive south from San Francisco went up and down winding roads. The traffic going into the city was horrendous, but we had a pretty clear drive. It took about 90 minutes two get to Aptos, the town we were staying in. We stopped at the local supermarket and picked up some supplies for the 6 days we were there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We followed the sat nag down to the house. What an incredible place. When I booked this, I really struggled to get what www anted within our price range. This end up being slightly above what we wanted to pay, but to be practically on the beach was so worth the extra. We unloaded all the stuff from the car, had a quick snack, and headed over the road to the beach.</div>

Rio del Mar is the name of this beach on Monterrey Bay. Our first evening we saw a sea otter, floating in the waves. We are used to seeing dolphins, but otters? This was a new one for us.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We had such a beautiful view of the sun setting, every night. We were really fortunate with the weather in that it didn't rain at all when we were away. </div>

On our drive in to the Grand Canyon, we had spotted a place called <a href="http://bearizona.com/" target="_blank">Bearizona</a>. I looked into it the night before, and decided it was probably something the kids would love.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
After our final morning in the canyon, we drove out towards Phoenix. Bearizona was on our route. We joined the small queue. It is a drive through safari, specializing in animals local to Arizona and the west coast. First up were mountain goats, followed by wolves. The on to the junior bears</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NPJ0d6VeYgI/VwPL9jyzTrI/AAAAAAAAEhk/j8K9XrMhg1w/s640/blogger-image-1915615262.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NPJ0d6VeYgI/VwPL9jyzTrI/AAAAAAAAEhk/j8K9XrMhg1w/s640/blogger-image-1915615262.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
There were loads of them just strolling around, hiding in dens in the ground, up trees, everywhere!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Then on to the bison and white bison</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Before going through the adult bears where they were enjoying a nice carcass of something. We parked up,and had a little walk around the other areas. There was a goat petting area, some bob cats, plenty of farm yard animals and foxes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Look!!! A bear up a tree!!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This was a great little stop. Something for the kids to enjoy, stretch their legs and entertain them before the 2 hour drive down to Phoenix. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The roads were fairly straight, but pretty mountainous. We must have gone through at least 2 different mountain or canyon ranges before getting into Phoenix. The views were absolutely stunning.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zN7O6ORhyZM/VwPL64SiR2I/AAAAAAAAEhg/6UW0nfEkiQ4/s640/blogger-image-148972884.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zN7O6ORhyZM/VwPL64SiR2I/AAAAAAAAEhg/6UW0nfEkiQ4/s640/blogger-image-148972884.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The whole desert terrain is something else. The desert air and altitude played havoc with mine, Oliver and Sebastian's sinus'. I felt blocked up and quite unwell a lot of the time. Didn't stop me from enjoying the absolutely gorgeous views. And the giant cacti which started to appear once we got nearer to Phoenix. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We had chosen to fly out of Phoenix to San Francisco. I can't even remember the reasons behind out decisions. Think it had something to do with it being a shorter drive back to Phoenix rather than Vegas, and a better timed flight the next day. We were able to check into our hotel in Phoenix early, so the boys went for a quick swim while I lounged. We went out for dinner that night at the local Chilis. It is near the university and airport district, so quite busy. Dinner was delicious.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Paul dropped the boys and I back at the hotel, while he returned the rental car, and got the airport shuttle back to the hotel. This saved us a bit on car rental costs, or it equaled out the amount we had to pay as we were dropping the car at a different return address. Phoenix was probably our cheapest stop, as we paid for the hotel using our Marriot reward points. None of us slept particularly well. The room slept five over a queen sized bed and a sofa bed, but did not have any roll away beds. Sebastian slept between paul and I. He was really awesome and managed to head butt me in the middle of the night.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
One fat lip later.......</div>

The Grand Canyon South Rim is only 270 miles from Vegas.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
With a nice morning stop at the <a href="http://claregosling55.blogspot.com/2016/04/goslings-go-west-hoover-dam.html" target="_blank">Hoover dam</a>, we continued with our journey. We had booked the <a href="http://www.grandcanyongrandhotel.com/" target="_blank">Grand Hotel</a> at the Grand Canyon, and arrived there just after 2. Unfortunately we were not able to check in early, so we drove straight up to the canyon. The queues to get in were about 1/2 mile from the gates.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Entrance to the park is $30. This may seem steep, but it is valid for 7 days. The park is open 24 hours as well. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Mid afternoon is NOT the time to arrive at the park. Parking was non existent. We were unable to get parked near the main visitors centre, so drove round to the Yavapai Point Geological centre instead, and were fortunate to get a parking space on the 6th time round the car park. There were Rangers in this car park ticketing anyone who was not parked in a marked bay.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zFg_LVY8jxs/VwPLtrizPjI/AAAAAAAAEhQ/ThjyTN6wIzs/s640/blogger-image-744049203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zFg_LVY8jxs/VwPLtrizPjI/AAAAAAAAEhQ/ThjyTN6wIzs/s640/blogger-image-744049203.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The geological centre was very informative and hands on. The kids loved it, even if it was a little busy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qCSyKETw4h0/VwPLeNSxIAI/AAAAAAAAEg8/8ibpQLHTCJQ/s640/blogger-image--2083498093.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qCSyKETw4h0/VwPLeNSxIAI/AAAAAAAAEg8/8ibpQLHTCJQ/s640/blogger-image--2083498093.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We walked along the south rim trail up towards the visitors centre. Again, super busy. The nearer we got to the centre, the busier it got. The kids were getting a little bored and mischievous, so we turned around and decided to head back to the car.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7yTQFqJud7Q/VwPLlc3C8jI/AAAAAAAAEhE/epFE5QD53vc/s640/blogger-image--488869501.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7yTQFqJud7Q/VwPLlc3C8jI/AAAAAAAAEhE/epFE5QD53vc/s640/blogger-image--488869501.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We headed back to the car, and out of the park. We were able to check in to the hotel straight away. Our hotel room was right across from the pool, so the kids took a quick dip before dinner. We ate at the hotel in their very nice Canyon Star steak house. We all enjoyed a rather nice dinner. Oliver even had a whole steak to him self. Sebastian however fell asleep at the dinner table. Jet lag was starting to get to the little one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Didn't stop them all from waking up at 6am the next day. We ate breakfast buffet at the hotel, and although we had to pay for the privilege, it was certainly worth the cost. Probably one of the best breakfast buffets we have ever had.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We were able to be in the park by 7.45am. There were no queues to gets, and we were able to park in the lot nearest the visitor centre. In fact, we were the first ones in the visitors centre.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
After watching a short documentary in their theatre we headed back out to the rim.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vCfCXOFvN0U/VwPLaJifVxI/AAAAAAAAEg4/ZNk-Da4orqE/s640/blogger-image--1370253043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vCfCXOFvN0U/VwPLaJifVxI/AAAAAAAAEg4/ZNk-Da4orqE/s640/blogger-image--1370253043.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It was cold this morning. Like freezing cold. But in the sun it warmed up very quickly. We walked the rim briefly before jumping in the car and heading to the Grand Canyon Village. A friend had recommend having breakfast in the El Tovar Hotel, but we couldn't get a response when we tried to book.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This area was one of the first areas opened up to tourists, mainly by the locals who lived there before it was designated a national park. The railways station was completed in 1901 and stopped carrying passengers to the park in 1968. It is the only railway station within a national park, and one of only three log cabin style train stations standing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hWmJG1C9Ptk/VwPLwQc7ziI/AAAAAAAAEhU/xNXJ7b2v-Nk/s640/blogger-image--715124315.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hWmJG1C9Ptk/VwPLwQc7ziI/AAAAAAAAEhU/xNXJ7b2v-Nk/s640/blogger-image--715124315.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The area around the village is much quieter. Granted, we were there first thing in the morning. It may get busier as the day warms up. The area is steeped in human history, and well worth a visit. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The Grand Canyon is such a vast place. We probably only spent about 5 hours in there tops. Even then, we only did the really touristy south rim area, and stuck firmly to the tourist trails. Time constraints and small children didn't really allow for anything else. It is still an absolutely stunning amazing place. It really helps you realize how insignificant we really are compared to this stunning land mark that has been carved out from the elements for billions of years.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Ahh the joys of having kids suffering jet lag. We were up and on the road out of Vegas by 6am. The kids had some cereal pots, and we had Starbucks. No traffic, woohooo! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
About 30 miles outside of Las Vegas is the Hoover Dam. We had planned on stopping here on our way to the Grand Canyon. We were driving through Boulder City by 7.30am. Boulder city was build around 1931 to accommodate the men and women who came to build the dam. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We arrived at the dam about 8am and parked up. It was nice and quiet. All the guide books and info onlin advises arriving early to these popular tourist destinations, and we certainly did that! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
An absolutely stunning feat of engineering.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
You can tell the era it was but in too. It is very Art Deco on many of the structures, with lots of gold plate.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The Hoover dam is still a working hydro electric plant, and supplies Nevada, Arizona and California with power.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Until 2010, this was the main access route between Nevada and Arizona. After September 11th, US congress pushed though the building of a new high way to divert the traffic away from the dam. The 2 lane Hoover Dam bypass opened in 2010. It is a spectacular bridge. The road over the Hoover Dam is closed on the Arizona side, though you can still drive over the dam, then turn around and go back again.</div>

We left with plenty of time to get to the airport. Check in was a breeze, if a little busy. This was out first time going through security with me having my insulin pump and continuous glucose (CGM). My diabetic nurse sent me a letter in the post to explain my devices. It was even a notarized legal letter with no expiry date on it. I was able to get a pat down with my devices in my hands, rather than risk having them go through the scanning machines. The security were really good about it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The boys were also very patient. We had a snack type early lunch at the Stockcar cafe at Charlotte airport. It was just what we needed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-o2svPoY3nug/VwCqBfBFX_I/AAAAAAAAEfk/RPMgV5-JhlQ/s640/blogger-image--1458238980.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-o2svPoY3nug/VwCqBfBFX_I/AAAAAAAAEfk/RPMgV5-JhlQ/s640/blogger-image--1458238980.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The plane ride was rather un<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">eventful. We had chosen our seats so we had a row of three, with two behind. I sat in the 3 with Oliver one side, and Seb the other. The boys played their kindles most of the time, though Oliver did do some school work (we have pulled him out of school for this vacation, as his spring break was 4 weeks ago. Darn private school).</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Flying over America is awesome. Fields and snow capped mountains everywhere. As you get further west, the terrain becomes more desert like, and we started to notice some gaping holes in the ground. </div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DMJDXYOM5AY/VwCqG2_GnQI/AAAAAAAAEfs/1JcEXppqYJY/s640/blogger-image--409575456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DMJDXYOM5AY/VwCqG2_GnQI/AAAAAAAAEfs/1JcEXppqYJY/s640/blogger-image--409575456.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Sorting car hire was a bit of a pain. We booked this trip back in December. We did not factor in spring break and March Madness (basketball tournament) taking place in Las Vegas the week we flew in. We had booked a full size SUV, like a Chevrolet Tahoe. But the car rental had very little cars left. We ended up with a mid size people carrier, a Mazda 5. The rental company deducted the price, which made it a little bit more reasonable.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We made it to the hotel a little early, and our room was not ready, so we headed to the pool for some drinks and food.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We were in Vegas, baby!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We have never stayed at a Marriot Grand Vacation hotel before, but I think we will again. Our room was a 2 bed suite and was very spacious. It did not look out over the strip, but we could see the mountains and some of the other hotels. The kids were still on eastern time (3 hours ahead) so we went out for an early dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. It wasn't great, felt like a processing place. Out hotel was just off the strip, so we were able to escape the craziness. Thank goodness, cos Vegas is crazy.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Having kids on eastern time meant for a very early wake up the next day. But we decided to make the most of it. We headed down to the lobby, and drove out of the city to Red Rock Canyon State Park. Here we were able to see the sun rise. It was beautiful </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EpH-TK9hWnk/VwCqOvLhl3I/AAAAAAAAEf4/cMMQGPCb9yo/s640/blogger-image-1290082152.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EpH-TK9hWnk/VwCqOvLhl3I/AAAAAAAAEf4/cMMQGPCb9yo/s640/blogger-image-1290082152.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Even if the kids were stupid tired and grumpy, it was well worth seeing.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xrQstXp1cGs/VwCqJVxcTsI/AAAAAAAAEfw/fjr58vVedHQ/s640/blogger-image--9731579.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xrQstXp1cGs/VwCqJVxcTsI/AAAAAAAAEfw/fjr58vVedHQ/s640/blogger-image--9731579.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We stopped at an IHOP on the outskirts of the desert for some breakfast. Probably one of the nicest IHOPs we have been to! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We drove back in to Vegas, and decided to dump the car back at the hotels and go for a walk up the strip. We had driven in from the south the previous day, so walking north made perfect sense.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Given it was only about 11am, the city was just starting to wake up. We were able to walk a good part of the strip, past Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, the Paros Casino and Ballys casino. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YjTL1ybPGFA/VwCqENw2TZI/AAAAAAAAEfo/ox1V93JE-Ws/s640/blogger-image-849393901.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YjTL1ybPGFA/VwCqENw2TZI/AAAAAAAAEfo/ox1V93JE-Ws/s640/blogger-image-849393901.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Walking around Vegas is fairly easy, they have Sky bridges over most of the intersections. We didn't deive much more after our morning outing. Traffic is terrible (this will be a running theme over the next few blogs). Everyone was pretty tired after our little excursions, so we decided to spend a couple of hours by the pool to refresh. And have the most expensive cocktails known to man.......</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">For our last evening in Vegas (I say evening, we had kids with jet lag so it was really 4 in the afternoon), we all wanted to visit M&M's World. 4 floors of blatant chocolate consumerism. Thanks. We started at the top. That's where the M&M's Racing Team was, and where we were able to get a photo with the the 18 NASCAR. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--9JMH8vhzRU/VwCp-QwpenI/AAAAAAAAEfg/pt_GDOKWQpg/s640/blogger-image-1648730646.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--9JMH8vhzRU/VwCp-QwpenI/AAAAAAAAEfg/pt_GDOKWQpg/s640/blogger-image-1648730646.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We had a delightfully relaxed dinner at the Rainforest Cafe, just near our hotel, then headed down to the Bellagio to watch the fountains. This was well worth the little walk through the crowds. Very entertaining, free show. Even the kids enjoyed it. We returned through the large crowds back to the hotel. We had found a cut through earlier, through a shopping centre, which avoided the crazy streets. A good thing in the early evening, as the crazies were starting to come out! Plus we were able to pick up some souvenirs. We returned to the hotel, and the kids were all in bed and asleep by 8pm. We enjoyed a couple of beers before falling in to bed our selves.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jp-356gtjTk/VwCqMFiNVmI/AAAAAAAAEf0/K2Bo_s7HVvc/s640/blogger-image--122642940.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jp-356gtjTk/VwCqMFiNVmI/AAAAAAAAEf0/K2Bo_s7HVvc/s640/blogger-image--122642940.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">All in, Las Vegas is crazy. Especially with kids. The kids had jet lag, which to be honest was a bit of a blessing. We were able to be up and about before most people woke up. This enabled us to see a sunrise, and see some of the sights of Vegas without having to go through crowds of drunk partying people. Homelessness is a problem, but we saw a fair amount of it this trip. The kids are young enough to not see the seedy, partying side. Thank goodness. I can completely see why people go to Las Vegas. Not sure if we will go back again. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">On to the next stop: the Grand Canyon</div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div>ClareGosling http://www.blogger.com/profile/18276584176745334099noreply@blogger.com0
